Electromagnetic Waves in Media With Correlated Inhomogeneity of Permittivity and Permeability

Journal of Applied Spectroscopy, 2014
The propagation of electromagnetic waves is examined in inhomogeneous media where the product of the permittivity and permeability is independent of position. A plasma-like frequency dispersion of the refractive index in these media is predicted. It is established that there is a cutoff frequency below which electromagnetic waves cannot be excited in ...

An Electromagnetic Cantilever Generator with High-Permeability Magnetic Materials

2018 IEEE 13th Annual International Conference on Nano/Micro Engineered and Molecular Systems (NEMS), 2018
This paper presented an electromagnetic cantilever generator (EMCG) of high energy density with high-permeability magnetic materials for harvesting ambient vibrational energy. We utilized a flexible cantilever connecting with a pair of magnets on the free end, and the coils with high-permeability magnetic materials are set right in front of the magnets.

Reflection of electromagnetic waves at the corrugated boundary between permeable dielectrics [PDF]

open access: possibleJournal of Physics D: Applied Physics, 1994
The reflectivity of periodically corrugated boundaries between non-lossy, isotropic dielectrics with different magnetic permeabilities is studied in a regime where the grating supports only a specularly reflected order. The propagation direction of the incident plane wave may form arbitrary angles with the normal to the mean surface and with the ...

Progress In Interpretation Of Transient Electromagnetic Data In Terms Of Subsurface Permeability

9th EEGS Symposium on the Application of Geophysics to Engineering and Environmental Problems, 1996
The relative importance of nonpoint-source (NPS) pollution in the degradation of water quality has increased in the last two decades due to the control of pollutant releases from point sources (Sharpley and Meyer 1994). The most important source of NPS pollutants are agriculture and urban areas, which impact water quality in rivers, lakes, estuaries ...

The influence of magnetic conductor permeability on the efficiency of strong-field electromagnets

Journal of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials, 1995
Abstract Studies were made of the influence of the permeability of a magnetic conductor made of cast iron (3.2% carbon) and steel (0.2% carbon) on the efficiency of strong-field electromagnets. The permeability was modified within the range 1000–5000 via thermal treatment of the metal in the temperature range 1000–1300°C in vacuum.

Mitochondrial Membrane Permeability After Nanosecond Electromagnetic Pulsed Exposure [PDF]

open access: possible2018 20th International Symposium on High-Current Electronics (ISHCE), 2018
The purpose of the presented study was to reveal the possibility to induce electric pores and/or to open permeability transition pore in the mitochondria of normal and tumor cells after nanosecond pulsed electromagnetic exposure. Cell suspensions were exposed to two type of pulses: 10GHz microwave pulses with duration of 100 ns and 1.0 GHz RF pulses ...

Electromagnetic Models for UXO Detection and Classification in Permeable Soils

2008
Abstract : Support Vector Machine (SVM) and neural networks (NN), are applied to classifying metallic objects according to size using the expansion coefficients of their magneto-quasistatic (MQS) response in the spheroidal coordinate system. The classified objects include homogeneous spheroids and composite metallic assemblages meant to resemble ...

Effect of Electromagnetic Pulse Exposure on Brain Micro Vascular Permeability in Rats

Biomedical and Environmental Sciences, 2009
To observe the effect of electromagnetic pulse (EMP) exposure on cerebral micro vascular permeability in rats. The whole-body of male Sprague-Dawley rats were exposed or sham exposed to 200 pulses or 400 pulses (1 Hz) of EMP at 200 kV/m. At 0.5, 1, 3, 6, and 12 h after EMP exposure, the permeability of cerebral micro vascular was detected by ...

On the time-domain electromagnetic response of a conductive permeable sphere

Journal of Applied Geophysics, 2009
The time-domain EM response of a conducting sphere has been subject of past studies with a particular goal of understanding the response of steel unexploded ordnance items. A change in formulas and parameter definition between authors has created inconsistency between published results and analytic formulas.

Simultaneous inversion of airborne electromagnetic data for resistivity and magnetic permeability

GEOPHYSICS, 1998
Where the magnetic permeability of rock or soil exceeds that of free space, the effect on airborne electromagnetic systems is to produce a frequency‐independent shift in the in‐phase response of the system while altering the quadrature response only slightly.
