Permeate flux prediction in apple juice concentration by reverse osmosis

Journal of Membrane Science, 1997
This work studies apple juice concentration by reverse osmosis (RO) using polyamide tubular membranes at different operating conditions. Permeate flux has been predicted by using the solution-diffusion model combined with the film model. Good agreement was found between the experimental values and the ones calculated by using both models.

Membrane permeate flux and rejection factor prediction using intelligent systems

Desalination, 2012
Abstract Backpropagation artificial neural network (BPNN), radial basis function (RBF) and adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) were utilized to predict starch removal performance from starchy wastewater using a hydrophilic polyethersulfone membrane with 0.65 μm pore size in a plate and frame homemade membrane module.

Predicting Permeate Fluxes and Rejection Rates in Reverse Osmosis and Tight‐Nanofiltration Processes

Chemical Engineering & Technology, 2015
AbstractThe performance of reverse osmosis and tight nanofiltration with flat‐sheet membranes can be predicted accurately. The proposed numerical model solves the local momentum and mass conservation equations in the module's feed channel with solution‐diffusion boundary conditions. Both qualitative and quantitative predictions of the permeate flux and

A constant flux based mathematical model for predicting permeate flux decline in constant pressure protein ultrafiltration

Journal of Membrane Science, 2007
This paper discusses a novel approach for predicting permeate flux decline in constant pressure ultrafiltration of protein solutions. A constant pressure process is assumed to be made up of a large number of small, sequential, constant flux ultrafiltration steps: the flux decreasing due to fouling and other related factors at the end of each step.

Prediction of permeate flux for ultrafiltration in wire–rod tubular-membrane modules

Journal of Membrane Science, 2002
Abstract Predicting equations for the permeate flux of membrane ultrafiltration in wire–rod tubular modules were derived from momentum and mass balances based on the resistance-in-series model, coupled with the considerations of declinations of flow rate and transmembrane pressure along the membrane tubes. Experimental work for the ultrafiltration of

Permeate flux prediction

2021
In any membrane filtration, the prediction of permeate flux is critical to calculate the membrane surface required, which is an essential parameter for scaling-up, equipment sizing, and cost determination. Permeate flux prediction is an essential parameter in membrane performance evaluation and the projections for scaling-up from laboratory to the ...

Prediction of permeation fluxes of small volatile components through starch-based films

Carbohydrate Polymers, 2007
Simple formulas for estimating the Maxwell-Stefan diffusion of trace volatile compounds through polymeric films in multicomponent mixtures are developed based on free-volume theory and Flory-Huggins-Maxwell-Stefan (FHMS) equation. The model includes the solution-diffusion theory, and predicts the order of magnitude of the permeation fluxes of diacetyl ...

Permeate flux prediction in the ultrafiltration of fruit juices by ARIMA models

Journal of Membrane Science, 2017
The quantitative prediction of phenomena responsible of flux decline is of great interest in membrane operations. In this work the application of ARIMA models was investigated to predict the permeate flux in the ultrafiltration (UF) of fruit juices during 6 h of continuous operation.

Prediction of permeate flux and permeate concentration in nanofiltration of dye solution

Separation and Purification Technology, 2004
Abstract Unstirred batch and cross flow nanofiltration have been carried out to separate dye from aqueous solution. The effect of different process parameters on separation of dye is studied. Experiments are conducted with aqueous solution of crystal violet (CV, molecular weight 408) using a 400 molecular weight cut-off membrane.

Prediction of permeate flux during osmotic pressure-controlled electric field-enhanced cross-flow ultrafiltration

Journal of Colloid and Interface Science, 2008
Electric field-enhanced cross-flow ultrafiltration has been carried out to separate protein, bovine serum albumin, from aqueous solution using a 30,000 molecular weight cutoff membrane. A theoretical model is developed to predict permeate flux under a laminar flow regime including the effects of external d.c.
