Prediction of permeate flux and counterion binding during cross-flow micellar-enhanced ultrafiltration

Colloids and Surfaces A: Physicochemical and Engineering Aspects, 2008
Experiments were carried out for removal of copper and calcium ions (single component as well as binary mixture) from aqueous solution using micellar-enhanced ultrafiltration (MEUF) in a cross-flow system. Micelles of anionic surfactant, sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) were used. The permeate flux was predicted using gel layer controlling model.

A Predictive Model for Permeation Flux in a Membrane Reactor: Aspects of Esterification

Separation Science and Technology, 2005
Abstract A polymeric membrane (PERVAP® 2201) was used to study permselectivity and flux of water from esterification mixtures at different temperatures (30°C–90°C) and compositions. The pervaporation flux of water from binary mixtures such as butyl acetate/H2O, butanol/H2O, and acetic acid/H2O was accurately predicted by using a solution‐diffusion ...

Prediction of permeation flux decline during MF of oily wastewater using genetic programming

Chemical Engineering Research and Design, 2012
Abstract Genetic programming is an orderly method for getting computers to regularly solve a problem. The genetic programming creates a computer program from an obtained data and solves the problem. In this work, treatment of oily wastewaters with synthesized mullite ceramic microfiltration membranes was studied and a new approach for modeling of the

Prediction of permeate fluxes and rejections of highly concentrated salts in nanofiltration membranes

Journal of Membrane Science, 2007
Abstract In this work, the Donnan-steric-pore-model-dielectric-exclusion (DSPM-DE) model was used to predict permeate fluxes and rejections of various single salts solutions in NF90 nanofiltration membrane. The salts used were NaCl, KCl, MgCl 2 , Na 2 SO 4 , Na 2 CO 3 , MgSO 4 and CaSO 4 .

Prediction of Permeate Flux During Ultrafiltration of Polysaccharide in a Stirred Batch Cell

Food and Bioprocess Technology, 2012
Ultrafiltration of polysaccharide macromolecule has been carried out in a stirred batch cell using a fully retentive membrane over a wide range of operating conditions. An unsteady state mass transfer model in conjunction with resistance-in-series model is developed using film theory.

Prediction of fouling resistance and permeate flux in cross-flow micellar-enhanced ultrafiltration (MEUF)

Colloids and Surfaces A: Physicochemical and Engineering Aspects, 2012
Abstract Cross-flow micellar-enhanced ultrafiltration had been used to separate pollutants from waste water effectively, while permeate flux decline with time because of the increase of fouling resistance. According to resistances in series theory, total transport resistance is the sum of two parts: membrane hydrodynamic resistance and fouling ...

Influence of feed concentration on the accuracy of permeate flux decline prediction in ultrafiltration

Desalination, 2008
Abstract A theoretical model was used for permeate flux decline prediction. Ultrafiltration experiments were performed varying TMP and feed concentration. The feed solution consisted of an aqueous solution of polyethylene glycol with a molecular weight of 35,000 Da. Monotubular Al 2 O 3 –TiO 2 ceramic membranes with a molecular weight cut off (MWCO)

Prediction of permeate flux for turbulent flow in cross flow electric field assisted ultrafiltration

Journal of Membrane Science, 2011
Separation of bovine serum albumin from aqueous electrolytic solution has been carried out by electric field assisted cross flow ultrafiltration using polyphenylene ethersulfone membrane of molecular weight cut-off (MWCO) 30 kDa in a rectangular channel.

Prediction of Permeate Fluxes in UF/RO Systems

1980
A membrane plant (Ultrafiltration or Reverse Osmosis) can be operated in one of two ways: batch or continuous. The continuous arrangement in its turn can be with partial recirculation (recirculating system), or without recirculation at all (single-pass). In fig. 1 an UF/RO circuit has been sketched.

Predicting permeate flux in ultrafiltration on the basis of surface renewal concept

Journal of Membrane Science, 1992
Abstract On the basis of a wide literature review it is concluded that the surface renewal concept is more appropriate than the film theory in describing mass transport phenomena at a membrane surface. The turbulence, lifting forces and drag forces (affected by the lateral flow of the permeate through the membrane pores), cause the stochastic nature ...
