Analytical Method to Estimate the Complex Permittivity of Oil Samples

open access: yesItalian National Conference on Sensors, 2018
In this paper, an analytical method to estimate the complex dielectric constant of liquids is presented. The method is based on the measurement of the transmission coefficient in an embedded microstrip line loaded with a complementary split ring ...

Phase Change Material‐Driven Tunable Metasurface for Adaptive Terahertz Sensing and Communication in 6G Perceptive Networks

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study explores the benefits of metasurfaces made from functional materials, highlighting their ability to be adapted and improved for various high‐frequency applications, including communications and sensing. It first demonstrates the potential of these functional material‐based metasurfaces to advance the field of sub‐THz perceptive networks ...

Peptide Sequencing With Single Acid Resolution Using a Sub‐Nanometer Diameter Pore

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
To sequence a single molecule of Aβ1−42–sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), the aggregate is forced through a sub‐nanopore 0.4 nm in diameter spanning a 4.0 nm thick membrane. The figure is a visual molecular dynamics (VMD) snapshot depicting the translocation of Aβ1−42–SDS through the pore; only the peptide, the SDS, the Na+ (yellow/green) and Cl− (cyan ...

Kramers-Kronig Relations For The Dielectric Function And The Static Conductivity Of Coulomb Systems

open access: yes, 2010
The mutual influence of singularities of the dielectric permittivity e(q,w) in a Coulomb system in two limiting cases w tends to zero, q tends to zero, and opposite q tends to zero, w tends to zero is established.

Measuring the optical permittivity of two-dimensional materials without a priori knowledge of electronic transitions

open access: yesNanophotonics, 2018
We propose a deterministic method to measure the optical permittivity of two-dimensional (2D) materials without a priori knowledge of the electronic transitions over the spectral window of interest.

Reconfigurable Metamirrors Based on Compliant Mechanisms

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Providing the basis for numerous practical applications, the reconfigurability of metadevices is of great importance. Through the integration of controlled mechanical deformation with chiral meta‐atoms, a compliant mechanism based metamirror is demonstrated for active control over the polarization of electromagnetic waves.

Negative static permittivity and violation of Kramers-Kronig relations in quasi-two-dimensional crystals

open access: yes, 2015
We investigate the wave-vector and frequency-dependent screening of the electric field in atomically thin (quasi-two-dimensional) crystals. For graphene and hexagonal boron nitride we find that, above a critical wave-vector $q_c$, the static permittivity

The Fundamental Mechanism Behind Colossal Permittivity in Oxides

open access: yesAdvances in Materials, 2019
Colossal permittivity materials exhibit extreme polarization in an applied electric field, providing applications in electronics and energy transmission. Understanding the atomic‐scale mechanism behind colossal permittivity remains a challenging task and

Complementary Logic Driven by Dielectrophoretic Assembly of 2D Semiconductors

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Scalable, parallel fabrication of complementary logic gates is demonstrated using electric‐field‐driven deterministic assembly of electrochemically exfoliated 2D n‐type MoS2 and p‐type WSe2 nanosheets. This strategy yields MoS2 and WSe2 transistors featuring average mobilities of 4.3 and 3.0 cm2 V−1 s−1, respectively, and on/off ratios of > 104 ...

Application of Laplace Domain Waveform Inversion to Cross-Hole Radar Data

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2019
Full waveform inversion (FWI) can yield high resolution images and has been applied in Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) for around 20 years. However, appropriate selection of the initial models is important in FWI because such an inversion is highly ...
