Non-destructive complex permittivity measurement of low permittivity thin film materials
Measurement Science and Technology, 2007Complex permittivity measurement of low permittivity thin films is necessary to understand the fundamental properties and to implement these materials in devices. A new technique has been developed employing split-post dielectric resonators at operating frequencies of 10 GHz and 20 GHz to measure relative permittivity and loss tangent of low ...

TDR permittivity measurements of dielectric films
2006 IEEE Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference Proceedings, 2006We describe a time-domain reflectometry (TDR) technique to measure the dielectric permittivity of film materials with enhanced dielectric constant. The test specimen consists of a planar capacitor terminating coaxial waveguide. The complex permittivity is obtained from analysis of the incident and the reflected voltage waves.

Permittivity measurements for high-permittivity materials at NMIJ using resonator methods
2016 Conference on Precision Electromagnetic Measurements (CPEM 2016), 2016This paper describes material characterizations for high-permittivity materials with the dielectric constant up to 3,000 by using resonator methods. Samples considered in this study are substrates with 0.5 mm in the thickness. Two types of measurement methods have been proposed: rectangular resonator method with controlling a sample insertion length ...

New Permittivity Measurement Methods Using Resonant Phenomena For High-Permittivity Materials
IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement, 2017This paper describes the characterization of high-permittivity materials with a dielectric constant ( $\epsilon _{r}$ ) up to 3000 using resonant phenomena. We propose and demonstrate two types of measurement techniques: the rectangular resonator method by controlling the sample insertion length and the waveguide reflection method with a sample ...

Free space measurement of permittivity
Twelfth International Conference on Antennas and Propagation (ICAP 2003), 2003This paper presents a free space technique for the measurement of the complex permittivity of a slice of dielectric sample. The experimental set up is described and the technique validated by measurements on well characterised dielectrics at J band whereupon it is concluded that the method would be suitable for use in the millimetre wave band. Measured

Complex permittivity measurements of two conifers
IGARSS'97. 1997 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium Proceedings. Remote Sensing - A Scientific Vision for Sustainable Development, 2002Complex permittivity measurements in the frequency range 1-10 GHz of two conifers, a 5.0 m high Balsam fir and a 1.9 m high spruce, are presented. With the large amount of measurement data it is possible to establish representative average values for the various parts of the considered trees.

Matrix Permittivity Measurements for Rock Powders
SPE Reservoir Evaluation & Engineering, 2014Summary Formation water content is one of the key petrophysical quantities provided by dielectric logging. However, to determine water content from formation permittivity measurements, the rock matrix permittivity must be known. Uncertainty in the rock matrix permittivity values translates into uncertainty in the water-content estimate ...

Dielectric Permittivity Measurements at Centimeter Wavelengths
Review of Scientific Instruments, 1969Improved apparatus for dielectric permittivity measurements at centimeter wavelengths is described. A method of data reduction which minimizes the effect of systematic errors, helps to average out random errors, and is free from significant mathematical approximations is presented.

Permittivity measurement using slotted coaxial resonator
Quality Measurement: The Indispensable Bridge between Theory and Reality (No Measurements? No Science! Joint Conference - 1996: IEEE Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference and IMEKO Technical Committee 7. Conference Proceedings, 2002We present a method of dielectric permittivity measurement based on a slotted coaxial resonator. The method is applicable at decimeter wavelengths. The resonator is 15 cm in diameter and provides adequate measurement of materials with inhomogeneities up to several millimeters in size.

Electrostriction measurements on low permittivity dielectrics
1998 Annual Report Conference on Electrical Insulation and Dielectric Phenomena (Cat. No.98CH36257), 2002The evaluation of electrostrictive properties of low permittivity dielectrics requires extremely sensitive instrumentation. In the present work, a modified compressometer for resolving fractional changes in capacitance on the order of 10/sup -6/ is used, along with a modified single beam interferometer capable of subangstrom resolution in displacement.
