A Portable Microwave Interferometry Sensor for Permittivity Detection Based on CCMRC [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2020
A portable microwave complex permittivity sensor based on the interferometry configuration is proposed. A complementary compact microstrip resonant cell (CCMRC) is applied as the sensitive element, which converts the dielectric information of the material under test (MUT) into the phase variations of its transmission coefficient.

A Low-cost and Accurate Microwave Sensor System for Permittivity Characterization

open access: yesIEEE Sensors Journal, 2023
<p>A novel low-cost microwave sensor system is proposed for accurate sensing of the real relative permittivity of materials under test (MUT). The proposed solution eliminates the need for using advanced measurement devices such as the vector network analyzer (VNA) for sensor characterization.

Differential Permittivity Sensor Using Microstrip Terminated Cross-Shaped Resonator Structure for Material Characterization

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2019
A differential planar microwave resonator permittivity sensor for material characterization is proposed in this paper. The sensor is based on asymmetric terminated cross-shaped resonator (TCSR) to provide multi-band notch frequency characteristics ...

Tunable Permittivity Sensors [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
This thesis presents a novel electric permittivity sensor based on Bleustein- Gulyaev (BG) waves; waves that propagate along the surface of shear-poled piezoelectric materials.

New Perspective on Planar Inductive Sensors: Radio-Frequency Refractometry for Highly Sensitive Quantification of Magnetic Nanoparticles

open access: yesSensors, 2023
We demonstrate how resonant planar coils may be used as sensors to detect and quantify magnetic nanoparticles reliably. A coil’s resonant frequency depends on the adjacent materials’ magnetic permeability and electric permittivity.

A novel dual modality sensor with sensitivities to permittivity and conductivity

open access: yes2017 IEEE International Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference (I2MTC), 2017
In this paper, an electromagnetic (EM) sensor which can operate simultaneously in capacitive and inductive modalities is developed, and a novel measurement strategy is proposed accordingly. The sensor is composed of two planar spiral coils with large track width, which promotes its capacitive mode.

Effective Calibration of Low-Cost Soil Water Content Sensors

open access: yesSensors, 2017
Soil water content is a key variable for understanding and modelling ecohydrological processes. Low-cost electromagnetic sensors are increasingly being used to characterize the spatio-temporal dynamics of soil water content, despite the reduced accuracy ...

Fabrication and characterization of nanometer thin films for low-voltage DEAs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Nanometer-thin films are the essential components of a low-voltage dielectric elastomer actuator (DEA). Comprising of two electrodes sandwiching a dielectric elastomeric material DEAs have evoked versatile materials research.
