Sync-Maximal Permutation Groups Equal Primitive Permutation Groups [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
The set of synchronizing words of a given $n$-state automaton forms a regular language recognizable by an automaton with $2^n - n$ states. The size of a recognizing automaton for the set of synchronizing words is linked to computational problems related to synchronization and to the length of synchronizing words.

Permutation-based group sequential analyses for cognitive neuroscience

open access: yesNeuroImage, 2023
Cognitive neuroscientists have been grappling with two related experimental design problems. First, the complexity of neuroimaging data (e.g. often hundreds of thousands of correlated measurements) and analysis pipelines demands bespoke, non-parametric ...

Base sizes of primitive groups of diagonal type

open access: yesForum of Mathematics, Sigma, 2023
Let G be a permutation group on a finite set $\Omega $ . The base size of G is the minimal size of a subset of $\Omega $ with trivial pointwise stabiliser in G. In this paper, we extend earlier work of Fawcett by determining the precise base

The Construction of Permutation Group Codes for Communication Systems: Prime or Prime Power?

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2020
This paper focuses on correcting a theorem relating to the construction of permutation group codes (PGCs). The theorem in question assumed that affine transformation could be used to enumerate all the code words of a permutation array with a minimum ...

Network topology drives population temporal variability in experimental habitat networks

open access: yesPopulation Ecology, EarlyView.
Habitat patches connected by dispersal pathways form habitat networks. We explored how network topology affects population outcomes in laboratory experiments using a model species (Daphnia carinata). Central habitat nodes in complex lattice networks exhibited lower temporal variability in population sizes, suggesting they support more stable ...

Normal structure of the one-point stabilizer of a doubly-transitive permutation group. II

open access: yes, 1975
The main result is that the socle of the point stabilizer of a doubly-transitive permutation group is abelian or the direct product of an abelian group and a simple group.

occumb: An R package for site occupancy modeling of eDNA metabarcoding data

open access: yesPopulation Ecology, EarlyView.
This study introduces a new R package, occumb, for the convenient application of site occupancy modeling using environmental DNA (eDNA) metabarcoding data. We outline a data analysis workflow, including data setup, model fitting, model assessment, and comparison of potential study settings based on model predictions, all of which can be performed using

Groups with a small set of generators

open access: yesApplied General Topology, 2003
Following [22] we study the class S of all groups that admit a small set of generators. Here we adopt also another notion of smallness (P-small) introduced by Prodanov in the case of abelian groups.

Imprimitive permutations in primitive groups

open access: yesJournal of Algebra, 2017
The goal of this paper is to study primitive groups that are contained in the union of maximal (in the symmetric group) imprimitive groups. The study of types of permutations that appear inside primitive groups goes back to the origins of the theory of permutation groups. However, this is another instance of a situation common in mathematics in which a
