A Relationship between the Major Index for Tableaux and the Charge Statistic for Permutations [PDF]

open access: yesThe Electronic Journal of Combinatorics, 2005
The widely studied $q$-polynomial $f^{\lambda}(q)$, which specializes when $q=1$ to $f^{\lambda}$, the number of standard Young tableaux of shape $\lambda$, has multiple combinatorial interpretations. It represents the dimension of the unipotent representation $S_q^{\lambda}$ of the finite general linear group $GL_n(q)$, it occurs as a special case of

The number of inversions of permutations with fixed shape

open access: yes, 2017
The Robinson-Schensted correspondence can be viewed as a map from permutations to partitions. In this work, we study the number of inversions of permutations corresponding to a fixed partition $\lambda$ under this map.

Addressing Vulnerability to Urban Heat Stress Through Community Engagement: A Systematic Scoping Review

open access: yesWIREs Climate Change, Volume 17, Issue 2, March/April 2026.
A pathway linking vulnerability factors, engagement levels, and community stances to adaptation options for addressing urban heat through a climate justice lens. Source: Authors' own elaboration. ABSTRACT Urban heat disproportionately affects communities with pre‐existing vulnerabilities, while their engagement in decision‐making remains scarce.

Asymptotic Normality of Statistics on Permutation Tableaux

open access: yes, 2009
In this paper we use a probabilistic approach to derive the expressions for the characteristic functions of basic statistics defined on permutation tableaux. Since our expressions are exact, we can identify the distributions of basic statistics (like the number of unrestricted rows, the number of rows, and the number of 1s in the first row) exactly. In

Modeling Transient Groundwater Flow in Unconfined Aquifers Under Dynamic Conditions Using Physics‐Informed Neural Networks

open access: yesWater Resources Research, Volume 62, Issue 3, March 2026.
Abstract Deep learning neural networks (DLNNs) hold great potential for modeling groundwater flow, but their performance depends on data availability. Physics‐informed neural networks (PINNs) help to reduce the reliance of DLNNs on data by integrating physical laws into the training process. This approach is increasingly used in applications related to

From mammoth to miniature: ‘Model of a summer encampment of the Yakuts’ as a narrative object Du mammouth à la miniature : La maquette de camp d’été des Yakoutes comme objet de narration

open access: yesJournal of the Royal Anthropological Institute, Volume 32, Issue 1, Page 111-131, March 2026.
Classic anthropological accounts of miniature objects have focused on their spatial and aesthetic dimensions, with more recent work addressing their communicative potential, connections with play, and role in protecting threatened cultural knowledge. This article analyses responses to a miniature landscape model of yhyakh, a festival celebrated in the ...

‘Expression is power’: Gender, residual culture and political aspiration at the Cumnock School of Oratory, 1870–1900

open access: yesGender &History, Volume 38, Issue 1, Page 121-138, March 2026.
Abstract This article investigates the ways in which late‐nineteenth‐century students at Northwestern University's Cumnock School of Oratory mobilised elocution training and parlour performance to foster mixed‐gender public discourse. I use student publications to reconstruct parlour meetings in which women and men adapted traditions of conversational ...

Accessing Research‐Informed Instructional Strategies to Teach Financial and Managerial Accounting: A Review and Recommendations

open access: yesAccounting Perspectives, Volume 25, Issue 1, Page 147-190, March 2026.
ABSTRACT Financial and managerial accounting (FMA) courses are critical courses that give first‐year students their first taste of technical accounting content. This paper surveys 20 years of literature in five specialist accounting education journals to draw out research‐informed instructional strategies and associated recommendations on their use and

Combinatorics of the permutation tableaux of type B

open access: yes, 2012
Permutation tableaux are combinatorial objects related with permutations and various statistics on them. They appeared in connection with total positivity in Grassmannians, and stationary probabilities in a PASEP model. In particular they gave rise to an interesting q-analog of Eulerian numbers.

Tree-like tableaux

open access: yes, 2013
International audienceIn this work we introduce and study tree-like tableaux, which are certain fillings of Ferrers diagrams in simple bijection with permutation tableaux and alternative tableaux.
