Peroneal neuropathy from Ankle-Foot orthoses

Pediatric Neurology, 2003
Mononeuropathies are uncommon in childhood but can be a cause of significant disability. A considerable proportion of pediatric peroneal palsies arise as iatrogenic complications of casting, footboards, and intraoperative positioning. This article provides a description of a patient who developed bilateral peroneal palsies after cardiac transplantation.

Peroneal Neuropathy From Antithrombotic Stockings

Journal of Clinical Neuromuscular Disease, 1999
We report an unusual association of peroneal mononeuropathy at the fibular head and the use of antithrombotic stockings. A patient developed clinical evidence of a peroneal nerve deficit temporally related to the use of a tight-fitting antithrombotic stocking. Nerve conduction studies and needle electromyography were performed.

An Unusual Cause of Peroneal Neuropathy

Seminars in Pediatric Neurology, 2014
We discuss the case of a teenage girl who presented with neurologic symptoms suggestive of a peripheral neuropathy, before the development of a central arteriovenous fistula. Electromyography and nerve conduction studies indicated peroneal motor neuropathy, but her comprehensive genetic study results were negative for common Charcot-Marie-Tooth ...

Identifying Common Peroneal Neuropathy before Foot Drop

Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, 2020
Background: Common peroneal neuropathy shares the same pathophysiology as carpal tunnel syndrome. However, management is often delayed because of the traditional misconception of recognizing foot drop as the defining symptom for diagnosis.

Involvement of superficial peroneal sensory nerve in common peroneal neuropathy

Muscle & Nerve, 2005
AbstractMotor involvement in common peroneal neuropathy (CPN) frequently shows a selective pattern with regard to deep and superficial divisions of the peroneal nerve, by clinical examination and needle electromyography. The involvement of the sensory branch of the superficial peroneal nerve (SPN) has not been well established using nerve conduction ...

Peroneal Sensory Neuropathy Entrapment Syndrome

Archives of Surgery, 1972
A syndrome of segmental neuralgia of the leg is presented based on a study of 60 extremities in 48 patients. The syndrome is characterized by a localized exquisite tenderness on the lateral side of the popliteal space, radiating distally along the outer surface of the leg and occasionally proximally toward the posterior surface of the thigh.

Accessory deep peroneal neuropathy: Collision technique diagnosis

Muscle & Nerve, 1998
Accessory deep peroneal nerve (ADPN), a common anatomic variant, is traditionally suspected when common peroneal nerve stimulation evokes a greater amplitude extensor digitorum brevis compound muscle action potential than deep peroneal nerve (DPN) stimulation. Posterolateral ankle stimulation over the ADPN is confirmatory. We report a rare patient with

Fibular (peroneal) neuropathy

Fibular neuropathy has variable presenting features depending on the site of the lesion. Anatomical features make it susceptible to injury from extrinsic factors, particularly the superficial location of the nerve at the head of the fibula. There are many mechanisms of compression or other traumatic injury of the fibular nerve, as well as entrapment ...

Common peroneal neuropathy

Neurology, 1991
We performed a prospective clinical and electrophysiologic study of common peroneal (CP) neuropathy to evaluate the extent of involvement of the muscles and cutaneous areas supplied by this nerve. In 22 patients, seven had more weakness clinically in muscles innervated by the deep peroneal nerve than in those innervated by the superficial peroneal ...

Common Peroneal Nerve Entrapment Neuropathy

2021
The common peroneal nerve runs around the fibular head in a shallow subcutaneous layer. It can be externally compressed by the rigid fibula at the bottom and it is fixed by fibrous tissue where it passes through a tunnel composed of the peroneus longus- and soleus muscle, and it is affected by dynamic factors.
