Photocatalytic Water Splitting on the Lunar Surface: Prospects for In Situ Resource Utilization

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Water has been found in craters on the moon nearby locations which are illuminated >80% of the time. Photocatalysis uses energy from sunlight to drive chemical reactions such as water splitting to produce oxygen and hydrogen. It is a scalable technology that requires lighter equipment and utilizes resources available on the moon. ABSTRACT The discovery

Interfacial Electronic Restructuring in MAPbBr3/rGO Hybrids Enabling Improved Charge Extraction for Efficient Photodetection

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
MAPbBr3/rGO hybrids exhibit interfacial electronic restructuring that enhances charge extraction in photodetectors. The incorporation of rGO modifies the surface chemical environment, enhances electron‐dominated transport, and suppresses performance degradation, resulting in higher responsivity, detectivity, and photostability than in pristine MAPbBr3 ...

Effect on Local Structure and Phase Transition of Perovskite-Type [N(CH3)4]2Zn1-x Cu x Br4 (x = 0, 0.5, 0.7, and 1) Crystals with the Various Doping of Cu2+ Ions

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2018
This study focused on how the local structures in pure [N(CH3)4]2ZnBr4 crystal are affected by the partial replacement of Zn2+ ions with Cu2+ ions. The structures and phase transition temperatures TC of perovskite-type [N(CH3)4]2Zn1-x Cu x Br4 (x = 0, 0 ...

Facet‐Specific PbS Quantum Dot Passivation Using Halide Perovskites for SWIR Photodetectors

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
PbS quantum dots (QDs) are emerging as powerful short‐wave infrared photodetectors, yet the passivation mechanism of large QDs by perovskites ‐ critical for their stability ‐ remains unexplained. Here, we unveil the ligand structure of CH3NH3PbI3 (MAPI)‐passivated 4‐nm PbS QDs using FTIR, XPS, SEM, NMR, and DFT.

Enhancing Performance and Reliability of Hf1‐xZrxO2 Morphotropic Phase Boundary Films via Nanolaminate Structuring and Microwave Annealing

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Hf–Zr–O‐based morphotropic phase boundary (MPB) thin films often suffer from limited endurance and poor uniformity due to intrinsic phase instability. This work proposes a nanolaminate architecture that spatially separates competing phases, stabilizes phase formation, and suppresses wake‐up‐induced degradation.

Octahedral connectivity and its role in determining the phase stabilities and electronic structures of low-dimensional, perovskite-related iodoplumbates

open access: yesAPL Materials, 2018
We describe a single crystal X-ray diffraction study and computational analysis of three guanidinium (Gua) based low-dimensional iodoplumbates with one edge-sharing and two corner-sharing octahedral connectivities, respectively.
