What Persian Gulf War syndrome?

Recent reports of physical and neuropsychological syndromes putatively associated with service in the Persian Gulf War and ostensibly providing evidence for Gulf War Syndrome (GWS) are critically reviewed. Major methodological weaknesses are identified in the studies and it is contended that there is no solid evidence for GWS at this time.

This paper challenges the prevailing narrative of the 1991 Persian Gulf War as a popular war. While support for war against Iraq after its invasion of Kuwait on August 2, 1990, was evident, it was not universally shared by U.S. citizens. Substantial antiwar rallies occurred during the build‐up to war.
