La Niña Impacts on Southeastern African Climate: The Influence of Event Duration

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, Volume 45, Issue 14, 30 November 2025.
ABSTRACT The multiyear La Niña event of 2020–2023, which brought with it several climate disasters across the globe, sparked both mainstream and scientific interest in La Niña events, which typically have received less attention than El Niño. In southern Africa, there is a general expectation in the scientific community and among user groups that La ...

Uncovering Rainfall Trend Discrepancies in Brazil (1983–2022): Insights From Ground‐Based and Blended Datasets

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, Volume 45, Issue 13, 15 November 2025.
Performance comparison between ground‐based (BR‐DWGD), satellite‐based (CHIRPS and PERSIANN‐CDR) and reanalysis (ERA5‐Land and MERRA‐2) rainfall datasets highlighted challenges in interpreting rainfall trends due to limitations of datasets’ methodologies, the scope of the effects of climate change, and the researchers' understanding.

Evaluation of Machine Learning Models to Improve Daily Precipitation Estimations From Orbital Remote Sensing and Reanalysis Data

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, Volume 45, Issue 12, October 2025.
Combined machine learning methods improve satellite‐based data (IMERG) in Brazil to produce accurate daily precipitation estimations in Brazil (IMERG BraMaL‐D) without dependence on ground‐based data. Calibration on the accumulated daily scale for a monthly scale is more efficient than monthly calibration.

Global Increase of Tropical Cyclone Precipitation Rate Toward Coasts

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 52, Issue 17, 16 September 2025.
Abstract Tropical cyclones (TCs) induced precipitation poses a critical threat to coastal regions. In the context of global warming and humidification, it remains to be clarified whether coastal exposure to TC‐induced precipitation has a detectable response. Based on multi‐source data sets in the past four decades, this study investigates the coastward

Assessing the Performance and Limitations of PERSIANN-CDR: A Case Study in the São Francisco River Basin

open access: yesRevista de Geociências do Nordeste
This study investigates the performance and limitations of the PERSIANN-CDR precipitation estimates dataset in comparison to strategically selected rain gauge stations within the São Francisco River Basin. The study covers the period from January 1989 to December 2018. The results reveal distinct patterns in the performance of PERSIANN-CDR.

Advancing High‐Resolution Precipitation Analysis for Operational Hydrological Applications in Australia: Data Sources, Methodologies, and Recommendations

open access: yesWIREs Water, Volume 12, Issue 5, September/October 2025.
Evolutionary tree of representative precipitation products and the methods behind them. ABSTRACT High‐resolution precipitation products (e.g., km‐scale and hourly) are essential for capturing extreme rainfall dynamics and improving hydrological models for flood forecasting and related applications.

Analysis of hydrological changes and flood increase in Niamey based on the PERSIANN-CDR satellite rainfall estimate and hydrological simulations over the 1983–2013 period [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the International Association of Hydrological Sciences, 2015
Abstract. A dramatic increase in the frequency and intensity of floods due to the Niger River in the city of Niamey (Niger) has been observed in the last decade. Previous studies highlighted the role of the land use changes on the flood increase since 1970s.
