Zbog svoje dugotrajnosti nepromenjeni prelaze velike razdaljine, usled čega se javljaju i u regionima u kojima nikad nisu bili ispuštani. Toksični su u vrlo malim koncentracijama, a mnogi od njih su kancerogeni.
