Persistent Urogenital Sinus

Journal of the Anatomical Society of India, 2010
Abstract Persistent urogenital sinus is a developmental cloacal anomaly, which presents as a single common passage for urethra and vagina in female neonates. Neonates with urogenital sinus frequently have ambiguous genitalia, rarely the vulva maybe normal. Incidence is 0.6in 10000 female births.

Persistent urogenital sinus: Prenatal diagnosis and pregnancy complications

American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, 1997
Prenatal diagnosis of fetal hydrocolpos caused by persistent urogenital sinus is described. The urethrovaginal communication allowed urine to empty from the bladder into the vagina, which subsequently dilated, causing bilateral hydronephrosis, distention of the fetal abdomen, decreased urinary output, oligohydramnios, and abdominal dystocia at delivery.

Prenatal Diagnosis of Persistent Urogenital Sinus with Duplicated Hydrometrocolpos and Ascites – A Case Report

open access: yesFetal Diagnosis and Therapy, 2010
We report a successful case of persistent urogenital sinus associated with a duplicated nonsyndromic form of hydrometrocolpos and ascites diagnosed prenatally. Though urogenital malformations are extremely rare and variable in presentation, the conjugation of those anomalies in a newborn is reported here for the first time.

A new approach for persistent cloaca: Laparoscopically assisted anorectoplasty and modified repair of urogenital sinus

Journal of Pediatric Surgery, 2015
The aim of this study is to describe the surgical technique and evaluate midterm outcomes of the technique: laparoscopically assisted anorectoplasty (LAARP) and modified repair of urogenital sinus.Seven patients with persistent cloaca underwent LAARP and modified repair of urogenital sinus between November 2005 and December 2010.

Persistent Urogenital Sinus: Diagnostic Imaging for Clinical Management. What Does the Radiologist Need to Know?

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Perinatology, 2015
Persistent urogenital sinus (PUGS) is a congenital pathological condition characterized by an abnormal communication between the urethra and vagina. It may be a part of a complex syndrome and can be more often associated with congenital malformations affecting the genitourinary tract system (33%) such as intersex, rectovaginal communication, bladder ...

Persistent Urogenital Membrane Sinus as a Clinical Entity

Chronic urogenital sinus expansion in reconstruction of high persistent cloaca

Pediatric Surgery International, 2012
Soft tissue expansion is a technique useful in reconstruction when a shortage of tissue exists. This study presents an investigation on using chronic balloon expansion in the urethral and vaginal reconstruction of high persistent cloaca. The common channel was expanded by a balloon, which was progressively inflated over 3-4 weeks at a pressure of 30-50 ...
