Hydrocephalus in Persistent Vegetative State
Journal of Korean Neurotraumatology Society, 2006Methods: 39 patients with hydrocephalic PVS were included in this study. W e analyzed the clinical outcome and prognosis according to clinical parameters, especially in relation to the shunt operation. Results: In 39 patients with hydrocephalic PVS, 26 underwent a shunt operation and 13 were treated conservatively.

To the Editor. —From a group of 81 patients in coma, Dr Hansotia1reported the clinical and electrophysiologic findings in eight who manifested the "persistent vegetative state." All eight patients sustained nontraumatic brain injuries, and none improved beyond the vegetative state, including four who died.

PET of infant in persistent vegetative state
Pediatric Neurology, 1993This is the first report of cranial positron emission tomography findings of an infant in a persistent vegetative state. Serial positron emission tomography/2-deoxy-2[18F]fluoro-D-glucose studies demonstrated persistent global reduction of cerebral glucose metabolism, results similar to those found in adults in persistent vegetative states.
