Coarse Thinking and Persuasion [PDF]

open access: yes
We present a model of coarse thinking, in which individuals group situations into categories, and transfer the informational content of a given message from situations in a category where it is useful to those where it is not.

Extreme Terahertz Nonlinearity of AlGaN/GaN‐Based Grating‐Gate Plasmonic Crystals

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
Plasmonic crystals based on grating‐gated 2D electron gas in AlGaN/GaN heterostructures provide a platform for strong light‐matter interaction. Pump‐probe experiments revealed strong terahertz nonlinearity leading to 45% increase in transmission at a fluence below 350 nJ cm−2.

Fabrication Optimization of van der Waals Metasurfaces: Inverse Patterning Boosts Resonance Quality Factor

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
An optimized fabrication approach for the nanostructuring of optical metasurfaces from van der Waals materials like hexagonal boron nitride is presented. The resonator geometries show enhanced geometric homogeneity, resulting in a significant increase in quality factors of symmetry‐protected bound states in the continuum resonances.

Vision‐Assisted Avocado Harvesting with Aerial Bimanual Manipulation

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This work outlines the design and implementation of a bimanual aerial robot that employs visual perception and learning to detect, reach, and harvest avocados. A new gripper and fixer arm assembly is used to harvest avocados, while visual perception enables the detection of avocados and estimation of their position and orientation for determining ...

Frames We Can Believe In: Official Framing and Ideology in the CCP’s Quest for Legitimacy [PDF]

open access: yes
In the debate on authoritarian resilience, the importance of persuasion to regime legitimacy has been widely acknowledged, yet a conceptual framework explaining the role of persuasion is still lacking.

Impact of the Substitution Pattern in N–heterocyclic Olefin‐Substituted Phosphines on Palladium Catalysis

open access: yesAdvanced Synthesis &Catalysis, EarlyView.
The impact of olefin backbone substitution in N‐heterocyclic olefin‐substituted phosphines is investigated. While these ligands are highly electron‐donating, their catalytic activity in Pd‐catalyzed CN cross‐coupling reactions decreases as the size of the backbone substituent increases.
