From Flybys to Sample Return: A Review of Space Probes and Robotic Sampling Technologies for Small Bodies

open access: yesJournal of Field Robotics, Volume 43, Issue 7, Page 4475-4514, October 2026.
ABSTRACT As a crucial puzzle piece of deep space exploration, exploring small bodies can provide significant scientific insights and valuable mineral resources. Unlike missions to the Moon and Mars, small‐body missions pose distinct technical challenges, including communication delays, weak gravity, and uncertain environments. This paper reviews a full

A Machine Learning‐Based Model of Three‐Dimensional Ion Fluxes in the High‐Altitude Earth's Northern Cusp

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Machine Learning and Computation, Volume 3, Issue 5, October 2026.
Abstract Magnetic reconnection at the dayside magnetopause is the primary pathway for transferring mass, momentum, and energy from the solar wind into the terrestrial magnetosphere. Previous studies have shown that the spatiotemporal dynamics of dayside magnetic reconnection can be inferred remotely from properties of Earth's cusps, specifically their ...

In Situ Observations of Ionospheric Perturbations Triggered by the Launches of 2022 and 2023 South Korea Rockets

open access: yesSpace Weather
We investigated in situ ionospheric plasma density perturbations triggered by the South Korea KSLV‐2 rocket launches on 21 June 2022, and 25 May 2023, by combining ground‐based GNSS total electron content (TEC) observations with in situ measurements from

Topside Ionospheric Models Revealed by Automatically Detected Relative and Absolute Swarm-A/C Perturbations

open access: yesRemote Sensing
Differing from previous work on ionospheric models only using a relative method, in this paper, stereoscopic ionospheric models are innovatively constructed utilizing both relative and absolute automatic plasma perturbations.

Acoustic Resonance between Ground and Thermosphere

open access: yesData Science Journal, 2009
Ultra-low frequency acoustic waves called "acoustic gravity waves" or "infrasounds" are theoretically expected to resonate between the ground and the thermosphere.

Auroral turbulence of the ionospheric convection [PDF]

open access: yesVestnik MGTU, 2016
The formation of the two-dimensional auroral structures in the cold ionospheric-magnetospheric plasma under convection has been considered. The convection inhomogeneity leads to appearance of the currents across and along the magnetic field lines.

Evolution of ion distribution functions in ionospheric plasmas perturbed by Alfvén waves

open access: yesJournal of Plasma Physics
This study investigates ion kinetic effects during the parametric decay instability (PDI) of parallel-propagating Alfvén waves under plasma conditions characteristic of the Earth’s ionosphere. By using a series of hybrid particle-in-cell simulations, we examine the evolution of ion velocity distribution functions (VDFs) in ultra-low-beta plasmas.

Magnetic Reconnection Driven by the Impact of a Magnetosheath High‐Speed Jet

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 18, 28 September 2026.
Abstract High‐speed jets (HSJs) are transient structures in the magnetosheath characterized by enhanced dynamic pressure. While recent studies report that HSJs trigger magnetic reconnection at the magnetopause, whether they can directly drive reconnection within the magnetosheath remains an open question.

High-latitude observations of impulse-driven ULF pulsations in the ionosphere and on the ground [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
International audienceWe report the simultaneous observation of 1.6?1.7 mHz pulsations in the ionospheric F-region with the CUTLASS bistatic HF radar and an HF Doppler sounder, on the ground with the IMAGE and SAMNET magnetometer arrays, and in the ...
