Resource Sharing between the Invasive Sirex noctilio and Native Woodborers and Beetles in Pinus Plantations

open access: yesInsects
Sirex noctilio, a European woodwasp, occasionally shares resources with the native S. nitobei and other colonizers in northeast China. The impact of its coexistence on individual species remains unclear.

BioCNTs Mediated Delivery of Systemically Mobile Small RNAs via Leaf Spray to Control Both Tomato DNA and RNA Viruses

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A carbon nanotube‐based biopesticide system (BioCNTs) enables efficient delivery and systemic movement of RNAi molecules to control major tomato viruses. By integrating shRNA and tRNA‐like structures (TLS) with BioCNTs, this green and scalable approach achieves long‐term silencing and high antiviral efficacy through simple foliar spraying.

Logging intensity reshapes insect biodiversity in pine wilt disease forests: a multi-trophic assessment from Jiangxi, China

open access: yesFrontiers in Forests and Global Change
IntroductionPine wilt disease (PWD), caused by Bursaphelenchus xylophilus, has led to widespread logging interventions in subtropical China, especially clearcutting, yet the ecological consequences for insect communities remain poorly understood. Insects

Ratoon Season Rice Reduces Methane Emissions by Limiting Acetic Acid Transport to the Rhizosphere and Inhibiting Methanogens

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study finds that the interaction between ABA‐OsCIPK2‐OsSWEET1A reduces the allocation of methane producing bacteria carbon source (acetic acid) content to the rhizosphere soil of ratoon season rice, thereby reducing methane emissions. Abstract Rice paddies are a major, persistent source of atmospheric methane (CH4), emission rates depend on the ...

Degradable and Recyclable 3D‐Printed Pheromones Delivery System Reinforced by Metal Coordination Cross‐Linking for Efficient Pest Trapping

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study presents a 3D‐printed carrier for the slow release of insect pheromones. Reinforced by lignosulfonate and Fe³⁺ coordination in a cellulose acetate matrix, it enables sustained release for up to six weeks with remarkable trapping efficacy. Featuring soil degradability and recyclable re‐printing capability, this carrier provides a sustainable ...

Phenotypes, antioxidant responses, and gene expression changes accompanying a sugar-only diet in Bactrocera dorsalis (Hendel) (Diptera: Tephritidae)

open access: yesBMC Evolutionary Biology, 2017
Background Diet composition (yeast:carbohydrate ratio) is an important determinant of growth, development, and reproduction. Recent studies have shown that decreased yeast intake elicits numerous transcriptomic changes and enhances somatic maintenance ...

A Cold Stress‐Activated Endocrine Sentinel Chemical Hormone Promotes Insect Survival via Mitochondrial Adaptations Through the Adipokinetic Hormone Receptor

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Seasonal cold adaptation is vital for insect survival, yet the molecular mechanisms linking diapause to mitochondrial resilience remain largely unresolved. We identify ascaroside C9 (asc‐C9) as a key endocrine signal that enhances diapause survival during cold stress by activating the AKHR–PGC1α–UCP4 axis, thereby driving cold‐induced lipolysis and ...

Allelic Variation in Maize Malate Dehydrogenase 7 Shapes Promoter Methylation and Banded Leaf and Sheath Blight Resistance

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In this study maize chloroplastic malate dehydrogenase7 (ZmMDH7), is identified as a Rhizoctonia solani resistance gene in maize. ZmMDH7 is regulated by transcription factor ZmWRKY44 via pathogens challenge to elevate mitochondrial ROS and SA signaling pathway.
