Sampling Strategy: An Overlooked Factor Affecting Artificial Intelligence Prediction Accuracy of Peptides’ Physicochemical Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Discovery, EarlyView.
This study reveals that sampling strategy (i.e., sampling size and approach) is a foundational prerequisite for building accurate and generalizable AI models in peptide discovery. Reaching a threshold of 7.5% of the total tetrapeptide sequence space was essential to ensure reliable predictions.

Post-extrasystolic variation of ST segment and T wave as a mortality risk predictor after myocardial infarction

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology
AimsEfficient use of preventive cardiac therapies is often limited by inefficient risk prediction, calling for new prediction tools. Ventricular premature complexes (VPCs) elicit electrocardiographic changes in the repolarization of the first post ...

Regulatory Issues in Biosecurity [PDF]

open access: yes
The management of biosecurity risks (risks to the production sector, to indigenous biodiversity, and to public health) involves the exercise of extensive regulatory powers both at the border and within New Zealand.

Causal analysis of trade loss from pathogens: A global study of foot and mouth disease impacts on meat exports

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Agricultural Economics, EarlyView.
Abstract Our general interest is in global trade loss from livestock pathogens, specifically exports. We adopt a causal inference approach that considers animal disease outbreaks over time as non‐staggered binary treatments with the potential for switching in (infection) and out of treatment (recovery) within the sample period. The outcome evolution of

MANAGING THE RISK OF EUROPEAN CORN BORER RESISTANCE TO TRANSGENIC CORN: AN ASSESSMENT OF CONTROVERSIAL REFUGE RECOMMENDATIONS [PDF]

open access: yes
A bioeconomic model is developed to evaluate the tradeoff between the risk of resistance and increased productivity when refuge is planted in conjunction with transgenic pesticidal corn.

How cold is too cold? A theoretical analysis of the optimal trigger for index insurance for frost damage to crops

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Agricultural Economics, EarlyView.
Abstract Crop insurance is undoubtedly an extremely valuable element in protecting agricultural businesses, but in many cases standard indemnity‐based products have had very low uptake due to high transaction costs elevating premiums to unaffordable levels.

Analysis of PEST Questionnaire Responses in Patients with Psoriasis in Daily Practice: Results from a Single-Center of Psoriasis in the Czech Republic

open access: yesDermatology and Therapy
Introduction Psoriatic arthritis (PsA) affects 10–30% of individuals with psoriasis. Early detection of PsA is crucial to prevent potential irreversible joint damage.
