Thoracic Ultrasonography Findings and Their Association With Respiratory Pathogens in 221 Young Beef Cattle at Fattening Farms: A Cross‐Sectional Study

open access: yesJournal of Veterinary Internal Medicine, Volume 39, Issue 4, July/August 2025.
ABSTRACT Background Thoracic ultrasonography (TUS) could improve antibiotic treatment selection in cattle with respiratory diseases. Hypothesis/Objectives Evaluate the association between respiratory pathogens and consolidations on TUS in feedlot cattle, at both individual and group levels. Animals A total of 221 bulls, aged 8.8 months and weighing 322.

Pestivirus Infections in Semi-Domesticated Eurasian Tundra Reindeer (Rangifer tarandus tarandus): A Retrospective Cross-Sectional Serological Study in Finnmark County, Norway

open access: yesViruses, 2019
Members of the Pestivirus genus (family Flaviviridae) cause severe and economically important diseases in livestock. Serological studies have revealed the presence of pestiviruses in different cervid species, including wild and semi-domesticated Eurasian

HoBi-like pestivirus infection leads to bovine death and severe respiratory disease in China.

open access: yesTransboundary and Emerging Diseases, 2020
HoBi-like pestivirus is an emerging atypical pestivirus in cattle and small ruminants, causing clinical signs similar to those observed in bovine viral diarrhea virus infections. Natural infection of HoBi-like pestivirus has been reported in cattle herds

Pestivirus apparent prevalence in sheep and goats in Northern Ireland: A serological survey.

open access: yesThe Veterinary Record, 2021
BACKGROUND Bovine viral diarrhoea virus (BVDV) and border disease virus (BDV) can cause significant health problems in ruminants and economic impacts for farmers.

Immunological responses against bovine viral diarrhoea virus types 1 and 2 after administration of a commercial subunit vaccine measured by ELISA and serum neutralisation on serum and milk samples

open access: yesVeterinary Record Open, Volume 12, Issue 1, June 2025.
Abstract Background Our study evaluated the antibody responses against bovine viral diarrhoea virus (BVDV)‐1 and BVDV‐2 generated by a novel subunit vaccine comprising BVDV‐1 E2 and BVDV‐2 E2 recombinant glycoproteins. Methods Two trials were conducted.

Decrypting the Origin and Pathogenesis in Pregnant Ewes of a New Ovine Pestivirus Closely Related to Classical Swine Fever Virus

open access: yesViruses, 2020
This study shows the origin and the pathogenic role of a novel ovine pestivirus (OVPV) isolated in 2017 in Italy, as a pathogenic agent causing severe abortions after infection in pregnant ewes and high capacity for virus trans-placental transmission as ...

Genetic characterization and recombination analysis of atypical porcine pestivirus.

open access: yesInfection, Genetics and Evolution, 2020
Atypical porcine pestivirus (APPV) is recognised as the etiology of congenital tremor (CT) Type A-II and poses a challenge to pig production. Here, we described a CT case in piglets caused by APPV infection in central China in 2017.

Epidemiology of Pestivirus H in Brazil and Its Control Implications

open access: yesFrontiers in Veterinary Science, 2021
Along with viruses in the Pestivirus A (Bovine Viral Diarrhea Virus 1, BVDV1) and B species (Bovine Viral Diarrhea Virus 2, BVDV2), members of the Pestivirus H are mainly cattle pathogens.

By‐Catch of Grey Seals in Fish Traps in the German Baltic Sea—From Incidents to Mitigation and Fisheries Regulation

open access: yesAquatic Conservation: Marine and Freshwater Ecosystems, Volume 35, Issue 5, May 2025.
ABSTRACT In autumn 2017, an unusual mortality event of Baltic grey seals (Halichoerus grypus grypus) occurred at the German Baltic coast. An alarming 23 carcasses of healthy, well‐fed, male large grey seals were found in a confined area in the Greifswald Bay (Mecklenburg‐Western Pomerania) in < 10 weeks from September to December.

Phylogenetic and codon usage analysis of atypical porcine pestivirus (APPV)

open access: yesVirulence, 2020
Atypical porcine pestivirus (APPV) has been identified as the main causative agent for congenital tremor (CT) type A-II in piglets, which is threatening the health of the global swine herd. However, the evolution of APPV remains largely unknown.
