Experimental pestivirus infections in pregnant goats

Journal of Comparative Pathology, 1991
Fifty pregnant goats, inoculated intramuscularly at different gestational stages with a non-cytopathic ovine pestivirus or a cytopathic bovine pestivirus, all developed pestivirus-neutralizing antibodies within 5 weeks of inoculation. The incidence of reproductive failure was similar for the two agents.

Immunology of Bovine Pestivirus Infection

American Association of Bovine Practitioners Conference Proceedings, 1996
The bovine pestiviruses (here referred to as bovine viral diarrhea viruses-BVDV) cause three types of disease: bovine viral diarrhea (BVD), mucosal disease (MD) or fetal disease (FD). In each case, the immune system of the host responds in a characteristic fashion (Nettleton and Entrican, 1995).

Bovine pestivirus : epidemiology of infection and pathogenesis of transplacental infection [PDF]

open access: possible, 2022
The thesis combines the field studies on the epidemiology of bovine pestivirus infection and the experimental study on pathogenesis of transplacental bovine pestivirus infection. In chapter four, the horizontal route of pestivirus transmission in groups of young, recently purchased calves was examined.

Transmission of a pestivirus infection in a population of Pyrenean chamois

Veterinary Microbiology, 2007
Outbreaks of a previously unrecorded disease have recently affected Pyrenean chamois (Rupicapra pyrenaica pyrenaica) populations across the mountain range. A pestivirus was hypothesized to be the cause of this emerging disease and this type of virus can cross the species barrier and be transmitted to or from wildlife.

Pestivirus infection in sheep and goats in West Austria

The Veterinary Journal, 2010
Blood samples from 3112 sheep (185 flocks) and 1196 goats (163 flocks) from the Western region of Austria were tested for pestivirus-specific RNA. In this area, communal Alpine pasturing of sheep, cattle and goats is an important part of farming. The prevalence of sheep persistently-infected (PI) with pestivirus was 0.32% (10 animals) and the PI ...

Descriptive study of a pestivirus infection in an Austrian goat

Veterinary Record, 2008
THE Pestivirus genus, within the family Flaviviridae, includes four accepted species, border disease virus (bdv), bovine viral diarrhoea virus (bvdv) types 1 and 2, and classical swine fever virus (csfv), and a tentative ‘Giraffe’ species ([Fauquet and others 2005][1]).

Investigations of pestivirus infection in wild Caprinae in Europe

Veterinary Record, 2011
PESTIVIRUSES (family Flaviviridae) are single-stranded, positive-sense RNA viruses that are traditionally classified in four species: bovine viral diarrhoea virus type 1 (BVDV-1) and type 2 (BVDV-2), which affect cattle, Border disease virus (BDV), which infects small ruminants and classical swine fever virus, which affects pigs.

Pestivirus infection of sheep – testing times?

Veterinary Record, 2018
Bovine viral diarrhoea in cattle and border disease in sheep are caused by infection with the pestiviruses bovine viral diarrhoea virus (BVDV) and border disease virus (BDV), respectively, although either virus is capable of infecting both species with comparable outcomes.1,2 In sheep, acute (or transient) BDV infection is generally mild and leads to ...

Pestivirus infection in a llama (Lama glama)

New Zealand Veterinary Journal, 1992
Abstract Cattle, sheep, goats and a llama (Lama glama) were among several animals that were grazed at our isolation facility. The llama was introduced about 20 months ago and about 12 months later a cow and its calf, both persistently viraemic to bovine virus diarrhoea virus (BVDV), were also introduced.

Experimental pestivirus infections in newborn goat kids

Journal of Comparative Pathology, 1990
Two experiments were carried out in which 37 healthy newborn goat kids were inoculated with a non-cytopathic ovine (BDV) or a cytopathic bovine pestivirus (BVDV) by intramuscular or intracerebral injection. No kids showed signs of disease or gross lesions which could be attributed to these viruses, but inoculated kids had lower mean growth rates than ...
