HoBi‐Like Pestivirus Is the Most Frequently Detected Pestivirus in Cattle Across Different Regions of Brazil

open access: yesTransboundary and Emerging Diseases, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Pestiviruses are major viral pathogens of cattle worldwide, causing substantial economic losses and posing persistent challenges to animal health and productivity. Brazil hosts the world’s largest cattle population and represents a strategic setting for the emergence and maintenance of bovine pestiviruses.

Seroprevalence and Molecular Detection of Bovine Viral Diarrhea Virus in Selected Dairy Farms in Southwest Ethiopia

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine International, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Bovine viral diarrhea (BVD) is a significant economic concern due to the risk of persistent infection and complex epidemiology in cattle‐producing countries, including Ethiopia. This study aimed to identify the circulating BVD virus type in dairy cattle, investigate seroprevalence, and assess associated risk factors in Jimma town, Oromia regional state,

Phylogeny, classification and evolutionary insights into pestiviruses

open access: yesVirology, 2009
The genus Pestivirus comprises four established species: Bovine viral diarrhoea viruses 1 (BVDV-1) and 2 (BVDV-2), Border disease virus (BDV), and Classical swine fever virus (CSFV); and a tentative species, Pestivirus of giraffe. Additional pestiviruses have been identified and suggested for recognition as novel subgroups/species.

Unveiling Novel Viral Diversity, Biogeography, and Host Networks in Wildlife Through High‐Throughput Sequencing Data Mining

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 12, Issue 46, December 11, 2025.
Analysis of 57 536 high‐throughput sequencing datasets uncovers a vast, hidden world of viruses in wildlife. The researchers reveal significant geographic and host‐specific patterns of viruses, and their surprising cross‐species transmissions, such as avian flu viruses infecting goats.

Seroprevalence of and Associated Risk Factors for Bovine Viral Diarrhea in Dairy Cattle in and Around Nekemte Town, East Wallaga, Oromiya Regional State, Ethiopia

open access: yesBioMed Research International, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
Bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV) is an important pathogen affecting dairy cattle all over the world by causing significant economic losses due to reproductive and respiratory problems, immunosuppressive effects, increased risk of morbidity, and calf mortality.

Molecular Epidemiology and Control Strategies for BVDV: A Global Systematic Review From 2000 to 2025

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine International, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
Bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV) remains a significant and highly contagious pathogen that markedly impacts production and reproductive performances of different animals worldwide. This review represents the global epidemiology of BVDV, emphasizing its genetic diversity, prevalence, host range, associated risk factors, diagnostic advancements, and ...

Pathogenicity of genotype 2.1 classical swine fever virus isolated from Japan in 2019 in pigs

open access: yesMicrobiology and Immunology, Volume 68, Issue 8, Page 267-280, August 2024.
Abstract Classical swine fever (CSF) re‐emerged in Japan in 2018 for the first time in 26 years. The disease has been known to be caused by a moderately pathogenic virus, rather than the highly pathogenic virus that had occurred in the past. However, the underlying pathophysiology remains unknown.

Archaeological approaches to RNA virus evolution

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, Volume 602, Issue 11, Page 2469-2478, 1 June 2024.
Abstract figure legend Molecular tools and concepts from phylosophy of language and archaeology for the search of ancient RNA elements in the current cell. Abstract Studies with RNA enzymes (ribozymes) and protein enzymes have identified certain structural elements that are present in some cellular mRNAs and viral RNAs.

Genotypic analysis of a localised hotspot of Pestivirus A (BVDV‐1) infections in Northern Ireland

open access: yesVeterinary Record, Volume 194, Issue 10, 18/25 May 2024.
Abstract Background Bovine viral diarrhoea (BVD) is caused by Pestivirus A and Pestivirus B. Northern Ireland (NI) embarked on a compulsory BVD eradication scheme in 2016, which continues to this day, so an understanding of the composition of the pestivirus genotypes in the cattle population of NI is required.

Milk as a diagnostic fluid to monitor viral diseases in dairy cattle

open access: yesAustralian Veterinary Journal, Volume 102, Issue 1-2, Page 11-18, January-February 2024.
Background Infectious viral diseases in dairy cattle have substantial implications for milk production, quality and overall animal health. Diagnostic tools providing reliable results are crucial for effective disease control at the farm and industry level.
