High frequency somatic embryogenesis and plant regeneration in petiole and leaf explant cultures and petiole-derived embryogenic cell suspension cultures of Hylomecon vernalis

open access: yes, 2003
Culture conditions are described for high frequency somatic embryogenesis and plant regeneration in petiole and leaf explant cultures and petiole-derived embryogenic cell suspension cultures of Hylomecon vernalis Max.

Intercropping mitigates incidence of the oilseed rape insect pest complex

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Intercropping reduces the incidence of the oilseed rape insect pest complex with a significant impact of the direct visual and physical disruption provided by the companion plant. Abstract BACKGROUND Oilseed rape (OSR, Brassica napus) is a major crop requiring numerous phytosanitary treatments.

Morpho-anatomical petiole characteristics of the beech in natural populations in Serbia

open access: yes, 2018
In the paper, there have been analyzed petioles of the beech collected from ten natural populations in Serbia. Due to performing this research, different morphological and anatomical elements of the petiole have been observed.

On The Biological Shape Of The Polygonaceae Rheum Petiole

open access: yes, 2016
The petiole is a plant organ that connects the stem to the blade of a leaf. The petiole is made up of a fibrous biomaterial that consists of three integrated tissues.

Intraspecific variability rivals interspecific differences in root traits of temperate tree seedlings

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, EarlyView.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Global change and associated disturbances are increasing the risk of regeneration failure for tree species in temperate forests. Seedlings are particularly vulnerable to water stress due to their shallow root systems, making below‐ground plasticity a potentially key ...

Offspring performance does not explain oviposition preference in the leafminer Stigmella sorbi (Lepidoptera: Nepticulidae): a tri‐trophic perspective

open access: yesInsect Science, EarlyView.
We studied oviposition site selection in a leaf‐mining moth (Stigmella sorbi) on rowan trees (Sorbus aucuparia) in northwestern Russia, assessing larval performance across different shoot types, leaf positions, and leaflets. Larval survival was highest on long vegetative shoots, yet females showed no preference for these optimal sites.

RNAi‐based functional genomics tools for the beet leafhopper using microinjection and nanoparticle‐based topical spray

open access: yesInsect Science, EarlyView.
• First demonstration of functional RNAi in the beet leafhopper, Neoaliturus tenellus, using both dsRNA microinjection and star polycation nanoparticle‐mediated topical spray delivery.•Microinjection achieved over 90% knockdown of Gus and Pum3, revealing gene‐specific fitness effects on survival and fecundity in beet leafhopper.•Nanoparticle‐mediated ...

Potential Correlation Between Bombus lantschouensis Thoracic Morphology and Flight Behavior

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
Potential correlation between Bombus lantschouensis thoracic morphology and flight behavior. ABSTRACT Remarkably little modern work has investigated the thoracic structures of insects and their relationship to flight locomotion. Most studies focus exclusively on either morphology or flight kinematics.

Handling mean–variance scaling in intraspecific trait variability and implications for trait–environment analyses

open access: yesMethods in Ecology and Evolution, EarlyView.
Abstract Trait‐based ecology increasingly relies on measures of intraspecific trait variability to estimate how trait diversity within species varies across species and environmental gradients. Yet variance and related metrics are often interpreted without considering their intrinsic dependence on the mean, as described by the empirical Taylor's power ...
