Interlinkages Between Agri‐Food Trade and the SDGs at the Global, Regional and Local Level

open access: yesJournal of International Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study is a structured review on the interlinkages between agri‐food trade and the SDGs in the environmental, social and economic dimensions to identify any missed opportunities that agri‐food trade could positively impact the SDGs and provide policy guidance for the missed opportunities at the global, regional and national levels. A great

Evaluation of surface, foam, emulsion, and clouding properties of a family of nonionic surfactants from oleic acid derivatives

open access: yesJournal of Surfactants and Detergents, EarlyView.
Abstract This study investigated the properties, namely: surface tension, foam, emulsion, and cloud point of a library of bio‐based surfactants (represented as CnEOm where C is hydrophobic carbon chain and EO is ethylene oxide). The surfactants were derived from ring‐opening alkyl oleate epoxides with polyethylene glycol (PEG) and monomethyl ...

A miniaturized iodine value assay for quantifying the unsaturated fatty acid content of lipids, lipid mixtures, and biological membranes

open access: yesLipids, EarlyView.
Abstract Various methods exist for identifying and quantifying lipid unsaturation, including mass spectrometry and Raman spectroscopy. A disadvantage of these existing approaches is the need for sophisticated equipment and software, placing them beyond the means of many laboratories.

Utilization of Ultrasonication as a Method of Reducing Organic and Inorganic Contamination in Post‐Consumer Plastic Film Waste

open access: yesMacromolecular Materials and Engineering, EarlyView.
Post‐consumer single‐used plastic film (SUPF) waste often carries organic/inorganic contaminants, challenging recycling processes and affecting the quality of recycled products. This study compares the efficiency of friction, ultrasonic‐assisted, and a combination of both washing techniques on film samples collected from material recovery facilities ...

Bio‐Based Epoxy Resins Derived from Eugenol with High Glass Transition Temperatures as Substitutes for DGEBA

open access: yesMacromolecular Materials and Engineering, EarlyView.
Four eugenol‐based epoxy monomers with two or three epoxy groups are synthesized to produce epoxy resins with high bio‐content and high glass transition temperatures (Tgs). The obtained monomers are crosslinked with two common amine‐based curing agents and compared with samples made from diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A (DGEBA). High Tgs of up to 271 °C

Recycling of Multilayer Polymeric Barrier Films: an Overview of Recent Pioneering Works and Main Challenges

open access: yesMacromolecular Materials and Engineering, EarlyView.
Multilayer barrier flexible polymer films, representing over 17% of global plastic packaging production, face recycling challenges due to complex compositions and strong interlayer adhesion. This image examines recycling methods, including mechanical recycling, delamination, selective dissolution‐precipitation, and chemical recycling.

Poly(Butylene Adipate‐Co‐Terephthalate)/Silane‐Treated Wollastonite‐Based Blown Film for Sustainable Packaging Application: Studying the Impact of Uniaxial Stretching on the Final Properties

open access: yesMacromolecular Materials and Engineering, EarlyView.
Poly(butylene adipate‐co‐terephthalate) (PBAT) films enhanced with silane‐treated wollastonite (S‐W) filler are innovatively developed using blown film extrusion followed by uniaxial stretching. This process led to remarkable improvements in the film's properties: tensile strength surged by ≈500%, and Young's modulus increased by 1000%.

Scalable Fabrication of Self‐Reinforced Bioplastic Composites Using Short Fiber Reinforcements

open access: yesMacromolecular Materials and Engineering, EarlyView.
Bioplastics are promising sustainable alternatives to petroleum‐based plastics, but their use is limited by weak mechanical properties. This study develops scalable short‐fiber self‐reinforced bioplastic composites (SRBCs) using drawn poly(3‐hydroxybutyrate‐co‐3‐hydroxyvalerate) (PHBV) fibers.

Poly(amino acid) Synthesis from 2,5‐Diketopiperazines for Acid‐Actuated Drug Release

open access: yesMacromolecular Materials and Engineering, EarlyView.
The ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) of 2,5‐diketopiperazines (2,5‐DKPs) to yield poly(amino acids) is reported. This route to poly(amino acids) has circularity, and permits the straightforward production of nanoparticles for controlled release applications.
