Synthesis gas, commonly abbreviated to syn gas is the trivial name for mixtures of carbon monoxide and hydrogen. The CO/H2 molar ratio varies from ca. 2: 1 to 1: 3 depending on the method used for generating the syn gas (see below). It can be produced from almost anything containing carbon and hydrogen, from methane to manure [1].
