Sand Petrofacies in the Shore Zone of Lake Tahoe, California and Nevada

Abstract Petrographic modal analysis of the medium sand fraction (0.35 to 0.50 mm in diameter) of 274 samples principally from the shore zone of Lake Tahoe indicates that source-rock composition and mechanical-energy level at the depositional site explain approximately 46 and 32 percent of the total sample variance, respectively.

Abstract The Bozbel Formation (Lutetian) of the eastern part of the Sivas Basin, central Anatolia, Turkey, displays a range of lithofacies which vary greatly in thickness. The formation consists of conglomerates, sandstones, mudstones and shales, marls, limestones, and sandy limestones, clayey limestones, tuffites, and volcanic breccias.

Interpretation
Abstract Core data provide valuable in situ information on the chemical and physical characteristics of subsurface formations. Thin sections, for instance, allow us to define rock types with similar mineral composition, lithologies, and pore types (i.e., petrofacies).
