Petrogenesis of Archaean Tonalites
Geologische Rundschau, 1982The Archean tonalitic magma series is characterized by a high Al2O3 and Na2O content. Tertiary tonalites with similar major element composition have been generated in subduction zones. It is therefore suggested that the Archean tonalites was generated in relation to subduction zones, the primary magma of the series being of dioritic composition.

Abstract In this chapter we consider the derivation and mode of development of the spectrum of lava types that constitute the Solomon Islands Younger Volcanic Suite. By implication this may also cast a little light on the genesis of lavas of other island arcs, particularly those of dominantly intra-oceanic affiliation.
