Transmembrane Activation of Catalysis and Protein Refolding in Synthetic Cells by Enzymes and Nanozymes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Synthetic cells are engineered herein to respond to an external chemical messenger by the activation of intracellular catalysis. The chemical messenger molecules are catalytically generated by an extracellular enzyme or a mineral surface, whereas the intracellular catalysis emerges via direct enzyme activation or via protein refolding.

Supramolecular Zwitterionic Hydrogels for Information Encryption, Soft Electronics and Energy Storage at Icy Temperature

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A series of ACHPES‐based hydrogels are developed and realizing multiple functions like anti‐fouling properties, alkali‐induced color/fluorescence‐changing ability and strain sensing. Furthermore, the hydrogels show excellent anti‐freezing performance, whose optical, mechanical and electrical properties remain stable at −47.3 °C.

Should Engineers be Concerned about Vulnerability of Highway Bridges to Potentially-Induced Seismic Hazards? [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
This paper evaluates the vulnerability of highway bridges in areas subjected to human induced seismic hazards that are commonly associated with petroleum activities and wastewater disposal. Recently, there has been a significant growth in the rate of such earthquakes, especially in areas of Texas, Oklahoma, and Kansas.

In Situ‐Gelling Antimicrobial Poly(oligoethylene glycol methacrylate)‐Based Hydrogels Integrating Bound Quaternary Ammonia Compounds and Antibiotic Functionalities for Effective Infected Wound Healing

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
In situ‐gelling poly(oligoethylene glycol methacrylate) (POEGMA)‐based hydrogels exhibit broad‐spectrum antibacterial activity against both gram‐positive and gram‐negative bacteria based on the dual covalent attachment of quaternary ammonium (QA) groups and the antibiotic ciprofloxacin (CIP) into the hydrogel networks, enabling effective in vivo burn ...

Design and capital cost optimisation of three-phase gravity separators

open access: yesHeliyon, 2020
The separation of produced fluids is essential once it reaches the surface. This separation is achieved in gravity separators. The design and sizing of separators can be challenging due to the number of factors involved.

Extreme learning machine-based model for Solubility estimation of hydrocarbon gases in electrolyte solutions [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
Calculating hydrocarbon components solubility of natural gases is known as one of the important issues for operational works in petroleum and chemical engineering. In this work, a novel solubility estimation tool has been proposed for hydrocarbon gases including methane, ethane, propane, and butane in aqueous electrolyte solutions based on extreme ...
