Vitamin and Amino Acid Auxotrophy in Anaerobic Consortia Operating under Methanogenic Conditions

open access: yesmSystems, 2017
Syntrophy among Archaea and Bacteria facilitates the anaerobic degradation of organic compounds to CH4 and CO2. Particularly during aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbon mineralization, as in the case of crude oil reservoirs and petroleum-contaminated ...

Organoclay interaction response to sedimentary environment and sources in Paleogene shales from the Nanpu Sag: Insights for organic matter accumulation mechanism

open access: yesThe Depositional Record, Volume 12, Issue 1, February 2026.
The deep paleo‐lake, characterised by low energy and moderate salinity, facilitated the input of fine‐grained minerals and the development of aquatic organic matter. Under the combined influence of the sedimentary environment and material source, mineral‐bound organic matter was formed, which played a crucial role in the enrichment of organic matter ...

Isolation and Characterization of Diesel – Degrading Bacteria from the Antarctica [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Several isolates of bacteria with diesel-degrading capability have been isolated and characterized from Antarctica. Three strains; isolates J2(p), J7(p) and G(k) were isolated and selected for further investigations. Microbiological analysis such as gram

The Utilization of Microbial Inoculants Based on Irradiated Compost in Dryland Remediation to Increase the Growth of King Grass and Maize [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
This research was conducted to evaluate the capability of functional microbial inoculants to remediate drylands. The microbial inoculants used consist of hydrocarbon-degrading microbial inoculants and plant-growth-promoting microbial inoculants.

Harnessing Population Genomics, Gut Microbiota, and Environmental DNA Surveillance for the Conservation of Chinese Spotted Seals in a Changing World

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 2, February 2026.
Marine mammals are sentinel species for ocean and human health. Multiple anthropogenic and environmental stressors threaten these organisms, particularly China's spotted seals, which have experienced significant decline over the past half‐century. Our review reveals low genetic diversity in Chinese spotted seal populations.

Uncovering the Key Factors Influencing Phytochemical and Phytopharmacological Properties During Medicinal Plant Processing

open access: yeseFood, Volume 7, Issue 1, February 2026.
From farm to pharma, this review details the engineering of quality in medicinal plants through a science‐driven approach: it first elucidates how genetic and environmental factors inscribe the plant's phytochemical and phytopharmacological profile before harvest, and then dissects the postharvest techniques and technologies—chemical and thermal pre ...

Presence of opportunistic oil-degrading microorganisms operating at the initial steps of oil extraction and handling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Hydrocarbon-degrading microorganisms from natural environments have been isolated and identified using culture-dependent or molecular techniques. However, there has been little research into the occurrence of microorganisms incorporated into crude oil in

MICROBIAL BIODEGRADATION POTENTIAL OF PETROLEUM-AND NATURE OILS BY INDIGENOUS HYDROCARBON DEGRADING BACTERIA ISOLATED FROM PETRO-CONTAMINATED SITES [PDF]

open access: yesZagazig Journal of Agricultural Research, 2017
The study was carried out as an effort at developing active natural petroleum hydrocarbon degraders that could be of relevance of bioremoval of petro-and non-petro oil pollutants from contaminated sites, a collection of 10 bacterial isolates as well as 3 yeast strains and Enterobacter clocace spp.

Metagenomic Insights into the Abundance of Iron-Reducing Microorganisms in a Petroleum-Contaminated Iron-Rich Aquifer

open access: yesMicroorganisms
In petroleum-contaminated aquifers, iron (III) serves as an electron acceptor, enabling microbial degradation of organic matter. While previous studies have focused on iron reduction and organic matter degradation under laboratory conditions, research on

Characterization of Chickpea Seed Oil and Its Structuring Into Oleogels Using Rice Bran Wax: A Study on the Physicochemical, Thermal, Textural, and Antioxidant Properties for Potential Use in Health‐Conscious and Sustainable Food Products

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 14, Issue 2, February 2026.
Higher rice bran wax ratios produced firmer, more stable oleogels. Lower wax concentrations resulted in weak structuring and phase separation. Oil‐binding capacity increased noticeably with RBW content. Thermal and textural properties improved in proportion to wax concentration.
