Lignocellulosic biomass: a sustainable platform for the production of bio-based chemicals and polymers [PDF]
The demand for petroleum dependent chemicals and materials has been increasing despite the dwindling of their fossil resources. As the dead-end of petroleum based industry has started to appear, today's modern society has to implement alternative energy and valuable chemical resources immediately.

Identifiability and physical interpretability of hybrid, gray-box models -- a case study [PDF]
Model identifiability concerns the uniqueness of uncertain model parameters to be estimated from available process data and is often thought of as a prerequisite for the physical interpretability of a model. Nevertheless, model identifiability may be challenging to obtain in practice due to both stochastic and deterministic uncertainties, e.g. low data

Critical bursts in filtration [PDF]
Particle detachment bursts during the flow of suspensions through porous media are a phenomenon that can severely affect the efficiency of deep bed filters. Despite the relevance in several industrial fields, little is known about the statistical properties and the temporal organization of these events.

Human Reliability Analysis for Oil and Gas Operations: Analysis of Existing Methods [PDF]
In the petroleum industry, Quantitative Risk Analysis (QRA) has been one of the main tools for risk management. To date, QRA has mostly focused on technical barriers, despite many accidents having human failure as a primary cause or a contributing factor. Human Reliability Analysis (HRA) allows for the assessment of the human contribution to risk to be
