Biotechnology of petroleum pollutant biodegradation
Microbial Ecology, 1986Procedures designed to meet the physiological needs of petroleum hydrocarbon (PHC) degrading microorganisms are useful in mitigating environmental damage caused by marine and terrestrial PHC spills. By similar approaches, soil can be utilized as a cost-effective biological incinerator for hazardous PHC wastes.

Petroleum pollution and mutation in mangroves
Marine Pollution Bulletin, 1994Abstract Chlorophyll-deficiency has often been used as a sensitive genetic end-point in plant mutation research. The frequency of trees heterozygous for nuclear chlorophyll-deficient mutations was determined for mangrove populations growing along the southwest coast of Puerto Rico.

Microorganisms and Petroleum Pollutants
BioScience, 1978Microorganisms play an important natural role in removing polluting petroleum hydrocarbons from contaminated ecosystems. Environmental conditions and hydrocarbon composition influence biodegradation of contaminating oil. Microbial seeding and environmental modification can be used, in certain situations to enhance biodegradation, as part of an overall ...

Effect of petroleum pollution on rotifer
Contemporary Problems of Ecology, 2012Results on the effect of petroleum pollution on the number and age structure of rotifers Brachionus plicatilis under laboratory conditions are presented. The effect of petroleum pollution (5, 10, 20, 40, 80, 160, and 320 mL/L of water) on a population of rotifers was studied when modeling experimental conditions.

Phytoremediation of Petroleum-Polluted Soils
2014Soil pollution from the discharge of petroleum and its products is among the most extensive environmentally damaging pollution problem in the world today. The presence of toxic organics in the soil and surrounding water bodies constitutes potential threats to humans and the ecosystem.

Impacts of Petroleum-Derived Pollutants on Fish Development
Annual Review of Animal Biosciences, 2017The teleost fish embryo is particularly sensitive to petroleum hydrocarbons (polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, PAHs) at two distinct stages of development. The first is early during cleavage stages when PAHs alter normal signaling associated with establishment of the dorsal-ventral axis.

Water Pollution by Petroleum Oils
Journal AWWA, 1940ППНЕ importance of the petroleum industry in a modern industrial X civilization with a high standard of living may be judged by the tremendous increase in the use of petroleum products since 1920. From 1920 to 1936 inclusive, consumption of motor fuel increased 345 per cent, gas and fuel oil 136 per cent, while the population increase is estimated at ...

Luminescence detection of petroleum pollutants in water
Bulletin of the Russian Academy of Sciences: Physics, 2015A simple optical instrument based on small LEDs and a solid-state photodetector is proposed to detect the petroleum contamination of water without using a spectrometer. The high sensitivity of the instrument in detecting petroleum fractions characterized by the maxima of luminescence bands ranging from 460 to 530 nm is demonstrated.

MERIS-based aquatic petroleum pollution monitoring mode
2009 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2009This paper presents a study of satellite-based aquatic petroleum pollution monitoring mode. First, four field data collections were made in 2006 and 2008. The sampling sites were in where the rivers were all threaten by petroleum pollution. The most important feature of water spectra in visible and near-infrared wavelength influenced by petroleum ...
