Microflora of Soils Polluted with Petroleum Products
Russian Journal of Ecology, 2002Extensive use of petroleum hydrocarbons as fueland raw material for the chemical industry leads toenvironmental pollution with these chemicals. Thedevelopment of methods for their identification andcontrol is an important problem of modern ecology.Hydrocarbon-oxidizing microorganisms play an activerole in biodegradation of crude oil and petroleum prod ...

Treatment of Petroleum Hydrocarbon Pollutants in Water
2021Due to industrialization, worldwide demand of hydrocarbons is escalating day by day and so is the growth of petroleum industries. The petroleum industries (refineries and petrochemicals) can create a detrimental impact on the environment by their discharges, oil spillage and waste generation during storage, processing and transportation.

Organic Chemical Pollution: Petroleum, Pesticides, and Detergents
1977The worldwide production and use of organic chemicals (both natural and synthetic) have increased dramatically since World War II. Much of the increase is the result of new compounds developed for consumer use rather than of an increased use of a few known compounds. The environmental impact of using these compounds has only slowly become apparent, and

Paraffin hydrocarbon patterns in petroleum-polluted mussels
Marine Pollution Bulletin, 1973Abstract This paper explains how modern analytical techniques can be used to detect hydrocarbons in marine organisms at extremely low concentrations, below those detectable by taste or smell.

Petroleum hydrocarbon pollution of Lake Burley Griffin
Oil and Chemical Pollution, 1990Aromatic hydrocarbons were measured in Lake Burley Griffin by fluorescence spectroscopy to gain an estimate of the pollution of the lake by petroleum hydrocarbons. Aromatic hydrocarbons are reported as equivalents of m-terphenyl (T) and chrysene (C). Observed concentrations are 0·3–2·2 μg/litre (T) and 0·1–0·5 μg/litre (C).

Air pollution from the use of petroleum
1979To many people oil pollution of the environment means oil tanker wrecks, like the Torrey Canyon or the Christos Bitas; lumps of tar on the sea shore and perhaps local pollution in their neighbourhood caused by a spill or leak from an oil storage installation on to land or into a stream.
