Impacts of Petroleum-Derived Pollutants on Fish Development

Annual Review of Animal Biosciences, 2017
The teleost fish embryo is particularly sensitive to petroleum hydrocarbons (polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, PAHs) at two distinct stages of development. The first is early during cleavage stages when PAHs alter normal signaling associated with establishment of the dorsal-ventral axis.

The Research of Petroleum Contaminated Site Media for Adsorption of Petroleum Pollutant

Advanced Materials Research, 2011
Base on the geological, hydrogeological condition survey of petroleum contaminated site, we choose benzene, dichloromethane, chloroform as target pollutants, and research the adsorption characteristics of target pollutant on the site soil media. Mainly design adsorption kinetics experiment and isothermal adsorption experiment of target pollutant on ...

Phytoremediation of Petroleum-Polluted Soils

2014
Soil pollution from the discharge of petroleum and its products is among the most extensive environmentally damaging pollution problem in the world today. The presence of toxic organics in the soil and surrounding water bodies constitutes potential threats to humans and the ecosystem.

Biodegradation of petroleum sludge and petroleum polluted soil by a bacterial consortium: a laboratory study

Biodegradation, 2011
This article presents a study of the efficiency and degradation pattern of samples of petroleum sludge and polluted sandy soil from an oil refinery. A bacterial consortium, consisting of strains from the genera Pseudomonas, Achromobacter, Bacillus and Micromonospora, was isolated from a petroleum sludge sample and characterized.

Luminescence detection of petroleum pollutants in water

Bulletin of the Russian Academy of Sciences: Physics, 2015
A simple optical instrument based on small LEDs and a solid-state photodetector is proposed to detect the petroleum contamination of water without using a spectrometer. The high sensitivity of the instrument in detecting petroleum fractions characterized by the maxima of luminescence bands ranging from 460 to 530 nm is demonstrated.

Fate and effects of polluting petroleum in the marine environment

1973
Oceanic oil pollution has become a major environmental issue. This review attempts to assess the extent of this pollution problem and its impact on the marine environment. The complex nature of petroleum is discussed to the extent that it pertains to its effects and its fate in the sea.

Water Pollution by Petroleum Oils

Journal AWWA, 1940
ППНЕ importance of the petroleum industry in a modern industrial X civilization with a high standard of living may be judged by the tremendous increase in the use of petroleum products since 1920. From 1920 to 1936 inclusive, consumption of motor fuel increased 345 per cent, gas and fuel oil 136 per cent, while the population increase is estimated at ...

Microflora of Soils Polluted with Petroleum Products

Russian Journal of Ecology, 2002
Extensive use of petroleum hydrocarbons as fueland raw material for the chemical industry leads toenvironmental pollution with these chemicals. Thedevelopment of methods for their identification andcontrol is an important problem of modern ecology.Hydrocarbon-oxidizing microorganisms play an activerole in biodegradation of crude oil and petroleum prod ...

[Plant biotests of soil and water, polluted with petroleum and petroleum products].

Prikladnaia biokhimiia i mikrobiologiia, 2001
Reactiona of higher plants (mustard, oat, rye, salad, dill and barley) and microalgae (Euglena gracilis) on the contamination of soil and water with petroleum and oil products was studied. The germination of seeds was analyzed. The length of sprouts, dry biomass and length of plant roots, as well as the optical density of micro-algal broth culture were

Degradation of Petroleum Pollutant Materials by Fungi

2012
Oil spills are one of the main pollution in soil, groundwater, and marine environments. Recently, bioremediation is paid attention as one of the effective cleanup techniques to such oil pollution. In this chapter, we will describe basis of bioremediation and oil-degradation mechanism by microorganisms.
