Gauging the odds of a double-dip recession amid signals and slowdowns [PDF]

open access: yes
Public sentiment says the recession isn't over. Never mind that the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER), the arbiter of recessions, declared that the Great Recession of 2008 and 2009 officially ended in June 2009.

Universal and Nondestructive Direct Photolithography of Colloidal Quantum Dots Using Photocrosslinkable Polymer Blends

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A universal and nondestructive direct photolithography method enables high‐resolution quantum dot (QD) patterning without ligand exchange. By blending QDs with a photocrosslinkable polymer, this approach preserves the optical properties and enhances the QD‐LED efficiency and lifetime.

Health Hazard Manual For Cutting Oils, Coolants, and Metalworking Fluids [PDF]

open access: yes, 1991
[Excerpt] The metalworker can be exposed to cutting oils during application by two basic routes of entry: skin contact and inhalation. The higher risk jobs tend to be those with high cutting speeds, heavy oil flow, and continuous contact, which may ...

Synergistic Compatibilization of CsPbBr3 Perovskites and HfO2 Nanocrystals for Hybrid Sensitized Nanoscintillators

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Lead halide perovskite nanocrystals are promising scintillators but suffer from reabsorption losses and limited compatibility with high‐Z additives. Hybridization of CsPbBr3 nanocrystals with PbBr2‐passivated HfO2 nanoparticle sensitizers, achieved during or after synthesis, produces stable composites with maintained optical quality, improved ...

Copper Single‐Atom Decorated Microfibrous Catalysts for Continuous‐Flow Reduction of Nitroarenes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Herein, a Cu‐single‐atom decorated, microfibrous catalyst (Cu1/CMF) is fabricated for chemoselective reduction of nitroarenes, demonstrating a superior processing capacity of 1.92 mmol mgcat−1 h−1 and superior durability (≥ 25 cycles) in a continuous‐flow manner.

The Impact of the Falling Yen on U.S. Import Prices [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
[Excerpt] In the fall of 2012, Japan set forth economic policies aimed at turning around the country’s historic deflationary slide that began in the 1990s. These policies led the Japanese yen to fall dramatically in value relative to the U.S.

Using the Photostationary State of Arylazopyrazoles to Control Phase Transitions of Liquid Crystals

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A series of new arylazopyrazole photoswitches is designed as dopants for liquid crystalline materials. Unprecedented, the distribution of photoisomers at the photostationary state upon irradiation with light of specific wavelengths (365, 460, 520 nm) is used to control the liquid crystalline phase transitions under isothermal conditions, including ...

The Evolution of Multicomponent Systems at High Pressures: VI. The Thermodynamic Stability of the Hydrogen-Carbon System: The Genesis of Hydrocarbons and the Origin of Petroleum

open access: yes, 2002
The spontaneous genesis of hydrocarbons which comprise natural petroleum have been analyzed by chemical thermodynamic stability theory. The constraints imposed upon chemical evolution by the second law of thermodynamics are briefly reviewed; and the ...
