Palagonitization of Volcanic Rocks in Polar Climates: The Case of Deception Island (Antarctica)

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems
A detailed study of palagonitization in rocks from Deception Island—one of Antarctica's most active volcanoes—has been performed to advance our understanding of this alteration process.

Enhancing Nitrate Removal With Industrial Wine Residue: Insights From Laboratory Batch and Column Experiments Using Chemical, Isotopic and Numerical Modeling Tools

open access: yesWater Resources Research
Agricultural run‐off exposes recipient water bodies to nitrate (NO3−) pollution. Biological denitrification is a suitable method for removing NO3− in water resources that can be induced by the use of industrial organic liquid waste as an electron donor ...

Troubles With Tubules: How Do Iron-Mineral Chemical Gardens Differ From Iron-Mineralized Sheaths of Iron Oxidizing Bacteria? [PDF]

open access: yesGeobiology
ABSTRACT Microscopic tubules and filaments composed of iron minerals occur in various rock types of all ages. Although typically lacking carbonaceous matter, many are reasonably interpreted as the remains of filamentous microorganisms coated with crystalline iron oxyhydroxides. Iron‐oxidizing bacteria (IOB) acquire such a coating naturally during life.

Single cell analysis reveals the involvement of the long non-coding RNA Pvt1 in the modulation of muscle atrophy and mitochondrial network [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are emerging as important players in the regulation of several aspects of cellular biology. For a better comprehension of their function, it is fundamental to determine their tissue or cell specificity and to identify their

Gypsum Gardens: Self-Assembled Tubular Structures of Calcium Sulfate with Relevance for the Detection of Extraterrestrial Life. [PDF]

open access: yesAngew Chem Int Ed Engl
Chemical gardens are self‐assembled architectures with “life‐like” morphologies that form in the absence of any biological activity. Here we show that such structures can also be obtained by contacting reservoirs of calcium and sulfate ions, under conditions that plausibly emulate those prevailing on early Mars.

Tópicos especiais de petrologia magmática

open access: yesGeologia USP. Série Didática, 2015
The technological development of the last decades allowed great advances in analytical processes, both in variety and speed of results. Sophisticated instruments, highly-developed chemical processes and the use of computers have enabled quantizing elements and isotopes that are concentrated in minerals based on the magmatic processes involved. In 2010,

Absorção e fracionamento dos elementos terras raras por vegetais: estudo comparativo em plantas ocorrentes em diferentes contextos geológicos

open access: yesGeologia USP.

An Insight into the Solid-State Miscibility of Triacylglycerol Crystals

open access: yesMolecules, 2020
The crystallization properties of triacylglycerols (TAGs) strongly determine the functional properties of natural lipids. The polymorphic and mixing phase behavior of TAG molecules have long been, and still are, a hot topic of research with special ...
