Joint inversion for facies and petrophysical properties based on a bi‐level optimization model

Geophysical Prospecting, 2023
In many subsurface studies, facies and petrophysical properties are two important reservoir parameters that are closely correlated. They are routinely used in well interpretation, hydrocarbon reserve calculation and production profile prediction.

Sedimentary facies and diagenesis control on petrophysical properties of sandstone reservoirs: A case study from the Permian Sulige Gas Field, Ordos Basin (Central China)

Geological Journal, 2021
The sedimentary characteristics and petrophysical properties of the reservoir of the second/lower member of the Lower Permian Shanxi Formation (P1s2) in Sulige Gas Field, Central China are studied by means of thin section petrography and scanning ...

Integrated Petrophysical and Seismic Analysis in the Facies - Case Study

81st EAGE Conference and Exhibition 2019, 2019
Summary This paper presents integration of petrophysical and electrofacies classification in the wells across the field, seismic inversion results and sedimentological analysis including facies identification and building the geological model which captures interpreted reservoir properties predominantly porosity.

Modeling Facies Bodies and Petrophysical Trends in Turbidite Reservoirs

SPE Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition, 2003
Abstract A two-stage approach for modeling turbidite reservoirs is presented. The first stage is to model the distribution and geometry of turbidite sandbodies using an object model that can be constrained to local vector directions. The facies objects are individual turbidite sandbodies that are locally aligned to a vector parameter to ...

Modeling Three Ways from Electro-facies - Categorical, E-facies Probabilities, and Petrophysics with Assignment

Proceedings, 2015
Geomodeling for petroleum reservoirs is conventionally done hierarchically by facies to establish regions within which rock and fluid properties can be considered “stationary.” Many reservoir models do not use depositional facies description, but use “electro-facies” created from clustering petrophysical log curves. This paper compares three approaches

3D Facies and Petrophysical Modeling in Carbonate Mishrif Reservoir

Proceedings, 2013
The Mishrif Formation in the studied wells is a result of continuous deposition on shallow carbonate platform that developed throughout the middle Cretaceous in South eastern Iraq. Petrographic study and microfacies analyses distinctly revealed six main subenvironment.

The Relationship between Petrophysical Properties and Geological Facies of Carbonates

Energy Sources, Part A: Recovery, Utilization, and Environmental Effects, 2006
In order to relate petrophysical properties to the facies descriptions provided in the geological description of the core, petrophysical properties, such as capillary pressure and resistivity index data, were measured for the Dune field carbonate cores in the Permian Basin of West Texas using the porous plate capillary desaturation cell.

Petrophysical facies of the ordovician red river formation, Williston basin, USA

Carbonates and Evaporites, 2001
A petrophysical facies is a mappable rock unit of similar petrophysical characteristics, imparted by the depositional and diagenetic environment. Capillary-pressure curves are the basis for delineating a petrophysical facies.

Simulation of Petrophysical Property Trends within Facies Geobodies

EAGE Conference on Petroleum Geostatistics, 2007
Multiple-Point Statistics (MPS) simulation has emerged recently as a practical facies modeling technique to simulate complex geological patterns, such as sinuous channels, that cannot be modeled using conventional (two-point statistics) variogram-based techniques.

Depositional Space: Construction and Applications to Facies and Petrophysical Property Simulations

International Petroleum Technology Conference, 2015
Abstract In the absence of strong diagenetic or compaction trends, the anisotropy and distribution of facies and petrophysical properties are essentially the result of the composition of the paleoenvironment at the time of deposition and of geological phenomena such as erosion, faulting, and folding, which subsequently altered the ...
