Depositional Facies, Sequence Stratigraphy, and Diagenesis of Lower Cretaceous Carbonate Reservoir, Southern Iraq: Implications for Petroleum Exploration

open access: yesJournal of Petroleum Geology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The Lower Cretaceous Yamama Formation of southern Iraq represents a key carbonate reservoir within Iraq and the Middle East, yet its complex depositional facies architecture and diagenetic alterations present challenges for predicting reservoir quality.

A >70‐Myr‐Long Geomagnetic Field Reversal Hyperactivity Across the Ediacaran‐Cambrian Transition

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 52, Issue 23, 16 December 2025.
Abstract The long‐term variation of the geomagnetic field is a key constraint for unraveling the geodynamo processes and the evolution of Earth's deep interior. However, the geomagnetic reversal pattern during the Ediacaran–Cambrian transition remains elusive. Here we present an integrated magneto‐ and cyclo‐stratigraphic study of a ∼1.8‐Myr‐long, late

Petrophysical characteristics of diatreme-facies kimberlites from Kirkland Lake, Ontario

open access: yes, 1996
Electrical resistivity (rho-r), effective porosity (phi-E) and bulk density (delta-B) have been measured on nine diatreme-facies kimberlite samples and six limestone samples from the Kirkland Lake area. One purpose of this study is to provide data required for interpretation of surface and airborne geophysical survey data.

Crustal Heterogeneity Onshore Spitsbergen: Data Integration and Forward Modeling of Potential Field Data

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, Volume 26, Issue 12, December 2025.
Abstract The Svalbard archipelago is well‐known for its outcropping geology, but its subsurface geometry and physical properties are less well constrained. To address this knowledge gap, a multidisciplinary approach has been applied to integrate potential field data with seismic reflection profiles, exploration boreholes and geology.

Machine Learning‐Based Seismic Subsurface Characterization: The State of the Art and Future Perspectives

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Machine Learning and Computation, Volume 2, Issue 4, December 2025.
Abstract Seismic subsurface characterization involves interpreting seismic records to delineate geological features and estimate the physical properties of subsurface rocks (such as lithofacies, porosity, and fluid saturation). As an effective remote sensing technology to characterize the large‐scale spatial distribution of subsurface properties ...

Electro-facies classification based on core and well-log data

open access: yesJournal of Petroleum Exploration and Production Technology, 2023
Facies studies represent a key element of reservoir characterization. In practice, this can be done by making use of core and petrophysical data. The high cost and difficulties of drilling and coring operations coupled with the time-intensive nature of ...
