Influence of CO2 injection on the pore size distribution and petrophysical properties of tight sandstone cores using nuclear magnetic resonance

open access: yesEnergy Science & Engineering, 2020
CO2 injection has been proposed as an efficient method for enhanced oil recovery in low‐permeability sandstone reservoirs. When CO2 is injected into such reservoirs, the petrophysical properties as well as the pore size distribution of tight formation ...

Importance of Microstructure in Carbonate Rocks: Laboratory and 3D-Imaging Petrophysical Characterization

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2021
Carbonate rocks are considered to be essential reservoirs for human development, but are known to be highly heterogeneous and difficult to fully characterize. To better understand carbonate systems, studying pore-scale is needed.

Quantitative Insights into Atomic Scale Oil–Clay Adhesion Governing Shale Oil Retention and Mobility

open access: yesENERGY &ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS, EarlyView.
Atomic force microscopy reveals a clear adhesion hierarchy between shale oil and clay minerals, governed by nanoscale surface chemistry. Strong interactions on chlorite and illite arise from abundant polar sites and cation bridging, whereas weaker coupling on montmorillonite limits interfacial binding.

Mapping and modelling of petrophysical and stratigraphic properties of peat soil with ground penetrating radar [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Peatland’s economic importance and environmental impact have made it attractive to scientific research. Great amount of works were done in studying its petrophysical behaviours. Most of the works are however done with reference to the peatland deposit of

Evaluation of Drillability of the Mahu Conglomerate Formation in Xinjiang, China

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
This graphical abstract illustrates the workflow for developing an optimized prediction model using measurement while drilling (MWD) data. A total of 90 MWD cases are divided into a training set (80%) and a test set (20%). Four logging‐while‐drilling parameters—compensation density, acoustic travel time, resistivity, and neutron porosity—are selected ...

Predicting CO2 residual trapping ability based on experimental petrophysical properties for different sandstone types

open access: yesInternational Journal of Greenhouse Gas Control, 2019
To increase confidence in the long-term security of CO2 geologic storage, reliable predictions of the level of post-injection CO2 residual trapping are needed.
