ULTRASTRUCTURE OF THE RESERVOIR AND FLAGELLA IN PHACUS PLEURONECTES (EUGLENOPHYCEAE)1

Journal of Phycology, 1975
SUMMARYThe ultrastructure of the reservoir region of Phacus pleuronectes is described. Thin sections, ruthenium red staining, and shadow‐cast preparations elucidate relationships and structural details of the flagella and flagellar hairs or mastigonemes.

Evolution of Distorted Pellicle Patterns in Rigid Photosynthetic Euglenids (Phacus Dujardin)

Journal of Eukaryotic Microbiology, 2009
ABSTRACT. Members of the euglenid genus Phacus are morphologically differentiated from other photosynthetic species by the presence of a rigid cytoskeleton (pellicle) and predominantly dorsoventrally flattened, leaf‐shaped cells. In order to better understand the evolutionary history of this lineage, we used scanning electron microscopy to examine ...

Delimiting species in the Phacus longicauda complex (Euglenida) through morphological and molecular analyses

Journal of Phycology, 2015
Although Phacus longicauda is the type species of the genus Phacus and one of the most common species among autotrophic euglenids, its correct identification is nearly impossible. Over 30 morphologically similar taxa appear in the literature, but there are no good diagnostic features to distinguish them.

Euglenophytes from Chunam Reservoir (South Korea) I Euglena EHR., Lepocinclis PERTY and Phacus DUJ.

Algological Studies/Archiv für Hydrobiologie, Supplement Volumes, 2002
Thirty-nine taxa of naked Euglenophyta, sampled in Chunam reservoir of Changwon, Keung Nam Province, South Korea, 9 belonging to the genera Euglena EHR., 11 to Lepocinclis PERTY and 19 to Phacus DUJ., have been determinated. Besides some taxa were examined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM).

The chloroplast genome of Phacus orbicularis (Euglenophyceae): an initial datum point for the phacaceae

Journal of Phycology, 2016
The Euglenophyceae chloroplast was acquired when a heterotrophic euglenoid engulfed a green alga and subsequently retained the algal chloroplast, in a process known as secondary endosymbiosis. Since this event, Euglenophyceae have diverged widely and their chloroplast genomes (cpGenomes) have as well.

O gênero Phacus (Euglenophyceae) em sistemas lênticos da Planície Costeira do Rio Grande do Sul, sul do Brasil [PDF]

open access: yesActa Botanica Brasilica, 2008
O levantamento do gênero Phacus Duj.

EVOLUTION OF PHACUS (EUGLENOPHYCEAE) AS INFERRED FROM PELLICLE MORPHOLOGY AND SSU rDNA

Journal of Phycology, 2001
This research integrates a large morphological data set into a molecular context. Nineteen pellicle characters and 62 states from 13 euglenid taxa were analyzed cladistically. The pellicle morphology of Euglena tripteris (Klebs), Lepocinclis ovata (Conrad), Phacus brachykentron (Pochmann), P. oscillans (Klebs), P. pyrum (Stein), and P.

Ecological notes on the species of Phacus Dujardin (Euglenophyta) from the central region of Portugal

Acta Oecologica, 2003
Abstract Twenty-one species, belonging to the genus Phacus, were identified during the study of samples from the central region of Portugal collected in lentic systems. The abundance of each taxon was determined. Water samples were taken for determination, by means of standard methods, of physicochemical parameters (water temperature, pH, organic ...
