Anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory activities of polysaccharide fromChlorella stigmatophoraandPhaeodactylum tricornutum [PDF]
Crude polysaccharide extracts were obtained from aqueous extracts of the microalgae Chlorella stigmatophora and Phaeodactylum tricornutum. The crude extracts were fractionated by ion-exchange chromatography on DEAE-cellulose columns.

Motility of the diatom, Phaeodactylum tricornutum
Experimental Cell Research, 1972Abstract The pattern and speed of locomotion of oval cells in Phaeodactylum tricornutum were observed and analysed. The diatom usually left a clear, straight or slightly curved track on the surface of an agar gel plate containing culture medium. Cells tended to move on the tracks previously left by themselves or by other cells.

203Hg as tracer in pigments of phaeodactylum tricornutum
The International Journal of Applied Radiation and Isotopes, 1973Abstract Cells of Phaeodactylum tricornutum were exposed to 0·12 ppm Hg (containing 203Hg as a tracer in a 3·5% NaCl solution and in dilute culture medium of the same salinity. Radioactivity measurements indicated that mercury uptake by the cells was comparable in both solutions, and that less than 2% of the sorbed mercury was in the pigments, as ...

Lipid production by Phaeodactylum tricornutum
Bioresource Technology, 1991The results of a three month investigation on the outdoor mass culture of Phaeodactylum tricornutum Bohlin are reported. Experiments carried out from January to March 1989 gave an average output rate of 4·0 g m−2 day−1 in ash-free dry weight (AFDW) basis for semicontinuous mode (days 0–74) and 2·0 g m−2 day−1 for batch mode (days 74–84 ...

Identification of a triacylglycerol lipase in the diatom Phaeodactylum tricornutum
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Molecular and Cell Biology of Lipids, 2016Diatoms accumulate triacylglycerols (TAGs) as storage lipids, but the knowledge about the molecular mechanisms of lipid metabolism is still sparse. Starting from a partial sequence for a putative TAG-lipase of the diatom Phaeodactylum tricornutum retrieved from the data bases, we have identified the full length coding sequence, tgl1.

Electroporation Transformation Protocol for Phaeodactylum tricornutum
2019Genetic transformation system is very important for both basic biological research and commercial exploitation of diatoms. Here we describe a high-efficiency nuclear transformation method for the model diatom Phaeodactylum tricornutum using an electroporation system, and the maximum transformation frequency obtained is about 3 × 10-5 cells.
