Reproductive performance of the great cormorant (Phalacrocorax carbo sinensis) in three Greek colonies

Journal of Natural History, 2008
Several breeding parameters of the great cormorant (Phalacrocorax carbo sinensis) were studied in Greece in 2001 and 2002 and were found to be generally higher at Lake Kerkini than in the other colonies. Fledging success (proportion of hatched eggs that led to fledged nestlings) was significantly higher at Lake Kerkini and in the Axios Delta in both ...

Prospecting enhances breeding success of first-time breeders in the great cormorant,Phalacrocorax carbo sinensis

Animal Behaviour, 1999
In many species of colonial seabirds, young birds visit colonies in the years before they start breeding. This prospecting behaviour may allow them to obtain information that could enhance their future breeding success. We examined the reproductive consequences of prospecting behaviour in the colonial great cormorant, and found support for this idea ...

Expansion of the Cormorant (Phalacrocorax Carbo Sinensis) Population in Western Lithuania

Acta Zoologica Lituanica, 2002
Cormorants started to breed in western Lithuania in 1989. Number of nesting pairs has approached 2000 in the recent years. The majority of breeding Cormorants concentrates in a single colony on the Curonian Spit. Rapid expansion of the species in the area causes potential conflicts with fisheries and forestry.

Sexual differences in the diet of great cormorants Phalacrocorax carbo sinensis wintering in Greece

European Journal of Wildlife Research, 2009
Sexual differences in the diet of the great cormorant, Phalacrocorax carbo sinensis, were studied in four Greek wintering areas, the Amvrakikos Gulf, the Axios and Evros Deltas and the Messolonghi Lagoon, through the analysis of stomach contents. Great cormorants are birds sexually dimorphic in size, with males being generally larger than females ...

Veliki vranac(Phalacrocorax carbo sinensis) na salmonidnim rijekama

2006

Wintering Population of the Common Cormorant Phalacrocorax Carbo Sinensis in Tuscany, Italy

1986
Common Cormorants of the Continental race Phalacrocorax carbo sinensis have recently increased their breeding populations, since some European countries have stopped control measures against them (Hansen, 1984; Hald-Mortensen, 1985; Rooth, 1985). This fact, not completely analyzed in the 1970’s (Cramp & Simmons, 1977) is now also affecting numbers ...

Impact of Phalacrocorax carbo sinensis (Aves, Phalacrocoracidae) on the fishery resources of a Sardinian lagoon

2012
The negative impact of ichthyophagous birds on fish stocks are now matter of great concern. The aim of this study is to assess the wintering diet of the Great Cormorant (Phalacrocorax carbo sinensis) in the S. Antioco lagoon (south-western Sardinia). Through the morphological analysis of undigested hard body parts, such as otoliths, it was possible to ...
