Impact of cormorant (Phalacrocorax carbo sinensis L.) colonies on microbial pollution in lakes [PDF]

open access: yesLimnological Review, 2013
AbstractDuring 2009-2011 we investigated the effect of perennial and roosting cormorant (Phalacrocorax carbo sinensis) colonies on microbial pollution in 3 lakes: Góreckie (Greater Poland National Park), Chrzypsko (Greater Poland Province) and Ostrowiec (Drawa National Park).

Indirect manifestation of cormorant (Phalacrocorax carbo sinensis(L.)) predation on pond fish stock [PDF]

open access: yesKnowledge and Management of Aquatic Ecosystems, 2008
The damage to fisheries caused by cormorant predation pressure consists of losses due to direct predation and subsequent indirect losses elicited by cormorant feeding activities resulting in fish wounding and stress. Healed wounds reduce the commercial value of afflicted fish and stress may impact fish body and health condition.

Molecular and morphological studies on <i>Contracaecum rudolphii</i> A and <i>C. rudolphii</i> B in great cormorants (<i>Phalacrocorax carbo sinensis</i>) from Italy and Israel. [PDF]

open access: yesParasitology, 2023
The distribution of parasites is shaped by a variety of factors, among which are the migratory movements of their hosts. Israel has a unique position to migratory routes of several bird species leaving Europe to winter in Africa, however, detailed ...

Identification of Contracaecum rudolphii (Nematoda: Anisakidae) in Great Cormorants Phalacrocorax carbo sinensis (Blumenbach, 1978) from Southern Italy. [PDF]

open access: yesVet Sci, 2023
In this study, four dead great cormorant Phalacrocorax carbo sinensis (Blumenbach, 1978) specimens, collected from the coasts and lakes of Southern Italy, were examined by necropsy for the detection of Contraceacum sp.

Morphological and molecular data on acuariid nematodes in European great cormorants (Phalacrocorax carbo sinensis) and pygmy cormorants (Microcarbo pygmaeus). [PDF]

open access: yesSci Rep
The family Acuariidae is a speciose group of parasitic nematodes, infecting mostly birds as definitive hosts. This study focused on the characterization of two species of acuariids, collected in two different species of piscivorous birds, the European ...

First record of <i>Paradilepis scolecina</i> (Rudolphi, 1819) Hsü, 1935 (Cestoda: Gryporhynchidae) in Republic of Korea with notes on ultrastructure and ecological risk in great cormorants, <i>Phalacrocorax carbo sinensis</i> (Staunton, 1796) (Aves: Phalacrocoracidae). [PDF]

open access: yesInt J Parasitol Parasites Wildl
Paradilepis scolecina (Rudolphi, 1819) Hsü, 1935 is a tapeworm widely distributed across the globe that uses piscivorous birds as definitive hosts. Although various piscivorous birds inhabit the Republic of Korea (Korea), this species has not previously ...

Cormorant catch concerns for fishers: estimating the size-selectivity of a piscivorous bird. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
Conflict arises in fisheries worldwide when piscivorous birds target fish species of commercial value. This paper presents a method for estimating size selectivity functions for piscivores and uses it to compare predation selectivities of Great ...

The Human Dimensions of Recreational Anglers Targeting Freshwater Species in Coastal Ecosystems, with Implications for Management

open access: yesNorth American Journal of Fisheries Management, Volume 41, Issue 5, Page 1572-1590, October 2021., 2021
Abstract Little is known about whether brackish coastal ecosystems attract specific angler types that are characterized by site‐specific preferences and behaviors while targeting freshwater fishes living in a low‐salinity environment. Using the lagoon (“Bodden”) fisheries in northeastern Germany, we compared the human dimensions among anglers fishing ...
