Phantom maps and rational homotopy [PDF]

open access: green, 2021
We generalize theorems of McGibbon-Roitberg, Iriye, and Meier on the relations between phantom maps and rational homotopy, and apply them to provide new calculational examples of the homotopy sets Ph(X, Y ) of phantom maps and the subsets SPh(X, Y ) of special phantom maps.

Phantom maps and injectivity of forgetful maps [PDF]

open access: bronzeJournal of the Mathematical Society of Japan, 2002
Let \(P\) be the total space of a principal \(G\)-bundle, and assume that \(P\) has the homotopy type of a simply connected finite CW complex. The associated forgetful map \(F\) is the natural homomorphism from the group of homotopy classes of equivariant self-equivalences of \(P\) to the group of homotopy classes of all self-equivalences.

Phantom maps and fibrations [PDF]

open access: green, 2020
Given pointed $CW$-complexes $X$ and $Y$, $\rmph(X, Y)$ denotes the set of homotopy classes of phantom maps from $X$ to $Y$ and $\rmsph(X, Y)$ denotes the subset of $\rmph(X, Y)$ consisting of homotopy classes of special phantom maps. In a preceding paper, we gave a sufficient condition such that $\rmph(X, Y)$ and $\rmsph(X, Y)$ have natural group ...

Relative phantom maps and rational homotopy [PDF]

open access: bronzeProceedings of the American Mathematical Society, 2020
We generalize some results of Gray and McGibbon-Roitberg on relations between phantom maps and rational homotopy to relative phantom maps. Since the l i m ⟵ 1 \underset {\longleftarrow }{\mathrm {lim}}^{1} and the profinite completion ...

Equivariant Phantom Maps

open access: green, 2001
A successful generalization of phantom map theory to the equivariant case for all compact Lie groups is obtained in this paper. One of the key observations is the discovery of the fact that homotopy fiber of equivariant completion splits as product of equivariant Eilenberg-Maclane spaces which seems impossible at first sight by the example of ...

On the Gray index conjecture for phantom maps [PDF]

open access: greenTopology and its Applications, 2009
We study the Gray index of phantom maps, which is a numerical invariant of phantom maps. It is conjectured that the only phantom map with infinite Gray index between finite-type spaces is the constant map. We disprove this conjecture by constructing a counter example.
