Nanosilicon dioxide hydrosol as surfactant for preparation of microencapsulated phase change materials for thermal energy storage in buildings [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Microencapsulated phase change materials (MEPCMs) have been recognized as potential energy storage materials for applications such as balancing of heating and cooling loads in buildings. However, current MEPCMs do suffer from low thermal conductivity and

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Magnetically stirring enhanced thermal performance of phase change material

open access: yesCase Studies in Thermal Engineering, 2018
Here we report an active method to enhance the thermal performance of phase change material (PCM) based on magnetically-stirring method. The magnetic bead with small size embedded in the container filled with octadecanol, is driven to rotate by rotating ...

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Melting of PCM in a thermal energy storage unit: Numerical investigation and effect of nanoparticle enhancement [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The present paper describes the analysis of the melting process in a single vertical shell-and-tube latent heat thermal energy storage (LHTES), unit and it is directed at understanding the thermal performance of the system.

Epigenetic blind spots – the role of DNA methylation dynamics in stem cell‐based models of embryogenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Embryo‐like structures (stembryos) are an innovative tool, but they are hindered by experimental variability and limited developmental potential. DNA methylation is crucial for mammalian development, but its status in stembryo models is poorly characterized.

Resonant cavities with phase-changing materials

open access: yesOptics Letters, 2017
Phase changing materials are commonly used for optical switching, limiting, and sensing. In many important cases, the change in the transmission characteristics of the optical material is caused by light-induced heating. We demonstrate that the incorporation of such optical materials in judiciously designed photonic structures can dramatically alter ...

Experimental study of coil and shell phase change material heat exchanger.

open access: yes, 2020
Phase change material-based thermal energy storage (PCM-TES) is a promising thermal energy storage technology because of its high energy storage density and narrower working transition temperature. These devices store energy in the form of latent heat in
