Heat Transfer Augmentation Using Duplex and Triplex Tube Phase Change Material (PCM) Heat Exchanger Configurations

open access: yes, 2023
The significance of latent heat thermal energy storage is more substantial when compared to sensible energy storage due to its higher energy storage capability. In this paper, heat transfer enhancement techniques for melting (charging) and solidification

Reconstructing enzyme evolution by protein engineering

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Natural enzyme evolution can be retraced by protein engineering methods such as directed evolution, rational design, and ancestral sequence reconstruction. These approaches reveal how enzymes emerged from ligand‐binding scaffolds, developed varying substrate preferences, formed oligomeric complexes, adapted to environmental changes, and evolved novel ...

Modeling InSe Phase-change Materials

open access: yesMRS Proceedings, 2003
ABSTRACTThe amorphous structure of InxSey has been studied by a first principles tight-binding molecular dynamics technique using the program package PLATO (Package for Linear-combination of Atomic Type Orbitals). The three-dimensional amorphous structures with different densities were prepared by quick quenching from the liquid phase.

Decoding the dynamic extracellular matrix in cancer—3D models and bioscaffolds rewire the rules of tumor progression

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cancer progression is regulated by the dynamic matrix code of the tumor microenvironment, which influences cellular behavior and disease development. Importantly, matrix remodeling in three‐dimensional cancer models more accurately reflects in vivo conditions compared to conventional two‐dimensional systems.

Ab Initio Study of Novel Phase‐Change Heterostructures

open access: yesAdvanced Science
Neuromorphic devices constitute a novel approach to computing that takes inspiration from the brain to unify the processing and storage units. Memories based on phase‐change materials (PCMs) are potential candidates for such devices due to their non ...

Phase change materials for building construction: An overview of nano-/micro-encapsulation

open access: yesNanotechnology Reviews, 2020
Buildings contribute to 40% of total global energy consumption, which is responsible to 38% of greenhouse gas emissions. It is critical to enhance the energy efficiency of buildings to mitigate global warming.

Identification of a Shiga toxin A‐derived peptide internalized into Gb3 receptor‐bearing cells via interaction with the Shiga toxin B subunit

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The process of internalization of the Shiga toxin A subunit via formation of a complex with the Shiga toxin B subunit, which specifically binds to the Gb3 receptor. The peptide is designed to act as a carrier of drugs into cancer cells. Here, we explored the potential of peptides derived from the catalytic A subunit of Shiga toxin (STxA) to be drug ...

Application of phase-change materials in memory taxonomy

open access: yesScience and Technology of Advanced Materials, 2017
Phase-change materials are suitable for data storage because they exhibit reversible transitions between crystalline and amorphous states that have distinguishable electrical and optical properties.
