Voltage programmable liquid optical devices [PDF]
In this study I have looked at two types of voltage programmable liquid optical device. The first is a rotatable liquid crystal waveplate and the second is an amplitude programmable liquid phase grating. The rotatable waveplate was created by confining a

A Workflow to Accelerate Microstructure‐Sensitive Fatigue Life Predictions
This study introduces a workflow to accelerate predictions of microstructure‐sensitive fatigue life. Results from frameworks with varying levels of simplification are benchmarked against published reference results. The analysis reveals a trade‐off between accuracy and model complexity, offering researchers a practical guide for selecting the optimal ...

Unraveling the Determinant Mechanisms in Flow-Mediated Crystal Growth and Phase Behaviors
To uncover the critical mechanisms responsible for mesoscopic level development during flow-mediated crystal growth, we develop a semi-two-way hydrodynamic coupled structural phase-field crystal formalism (HXPFC-s2).

Geometry‐driven thermal behavior in wire‐arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) influences microstructural evolution during nonequilibrium solidification of a chemically complex Fe–Cr–Nb–W–Mo–C nanocomposite system. By comparing different deposits configurations, distinct entropy–cooling rate correlations, segregation, and carbide evolution are revealed ...

For a thermotropic liquid crystal, its phase state depends on temperature, and nematic and isotropic phases, which behave like a fluid macroscopically, can coexist by adjusting its temperature. We have developed a liquid-like micromanipulator operated by

Analysis of a Navier–Stokes phase-field crystal system
We consider an evolution system modeling a flow of colloidal particles which are suspended in an incompressible fluid and accounts for colloidal crystallization. The system consists of the Navier-Stokes equations for the volume averaged velocity coupled with the so-called Phase-Field Crystal equation for the density deviation.

Towards Defect Phase Diagrams: From Research Data Management to Automated Workflows
A research data management infrastructure is presented for the systematic integration of heterogeneous experimental and simulation data required for defect phase diagrams. The approach combines openBIS with a companion application for large‐object storage, automated metadata extraction, provenance tracking and federated data access, thereby supporting ...
