Modelling of Effective Permeability Coefficient Caused by the Formation of CO2 Hydrate in Sand Layer Using Pore-Scale Numerical Simulations

open access: yesJournal of MMIJ, 2021
Carbon dioxide capture and storage is an efficient technology to reduce CO2. Among CO2 storage methods, storage in the form of gas hydrate is thought to be promising for increasing the volume capacity of storable CO2.

Modelling stem cell differentiation related processes—A practical overview for biologists

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Stem cell differentiation is complex and difficult to control experimentally. This review introduces suitable computational modelling approaches that can support stem cell research, from mechanistic ODE and abstract models to multiscale and deep learning methods.

A phase‐field method for modeling cracks with frictional contact [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering, 2019
SummaryWe introduce a phase‐field method for continuous modeling of cracks with frictional contacts. Compared with standard discrete methods for frictional contacts, the phase‐field method has two attractive features: (i) it can represent arbitrary crack geometry without an explicit function or basis enrichment, and (ii) it does not require an ...

Thickness Dependence of Switching Behavior in Ferroelectric BiFeO3 Thin Films: A Phase-Field Simulation

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2017
A phase-field approach to the analysis of the thickness effects in electric-field-induced domain switching in BiFeO3 thin films has been formulated. Time evolutions of domain switching percentage for films with different thicknesses were explored to ...

Numerical simulation on the freezing of deposited or impinged water droplets on a cold surface

open access: yesJournal of Thermal Science and Technology, 2021
The freezing of water droplets deposited or impinged on cold surfaces causes many problems in traffic lights, power transmission wires and heat exchangers. Thus, the suppression of the freezing of these droplets is very important.

Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an

Vectorial formalism for analysis and design of polyphase synchronous machines [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
A vectorial formalism for analysis and design of polyphase synchronous machines without reluctance and saturation effects is described. We prove the equivalence of such a machine with a set of magnetically independent machines, which are electrically and

Conserved binding mode but diverse interfaces of MreC‐PBP2 interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The crystal structure of abMreC reveals a conserved two β‐barrel architecture and provides structural insights into its role within the bacterial elongasome. The abMreC–abPBP2 complex model identifies the molecular basis of MreC‐mediated PBP2 recognition, contributing to the regulation of peptidoglycan synthesis.

Phase-field topology optimization model that removes the curvature effects

open access: yesMechanical Engineering Journal, 2017
The conventional phase-field topology optimization (PFTO) models minimize not only the objective function but also the interface energy. In the present study, a new PFTO model, which minimizes only the objective function, is developed by removing the ...
