Phase field methods and dislocations [PDF]

open access: yesActa Materialia, 2003
Abstract We present a general formalism for incorporating dislocations in Phase Field methods (PFM) based on the elastic equivalence between a dislocation loop and a platelet inclusion of specific stress-free strain. Dislocations may be elastically and dynamically coupled to any other field such as a concentration field.

High-resolution digital holography utilized by the subpixel sampling method [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
A novel (to our knowledge) approach for resolution improvement in digital holography is presented in this paper. The proposed method is based on recording the incoming interference field on a complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS) camera with ...

Simulating hydrogen embrittlement fracture based on phase field method

open access: yesXibei Gongye Daxue Xuebao, 2022
The phase field hydrogen embrittlement fracture model is improved by introducing tension-compression split of strain energy. The numerical formulas of the model are provided, besides, the coupling term of concentration field and displacement field is ...

Intrinsic, multiplexable sensors for electric field strength using structural slow light in phase-shifted fibre Bragg gratings [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
In this paper we demonstrate through simulation the potential for phase-shifted fibre Bragg gratings incorporating structural slow light to enable intrinsic reflection-mode point sensors for electric field or voltage.

Vectorial formalism for analysis and design of polyphase synchronous machines [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
A vectorial formalism for analysis and design of polyphase synchronous machines without reluctance and saturation effects is described. We prove the equivalence of such a machine with a set of magnetically independent machines, which are electrically and

Phase-field method for epitaxial kinetics on surfaces [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Chemical Physics, 2018
We present a procedure for simulating epitaxial growth based on the phase-field method. We consider a basic model in which growth is initiated by a flux of atoms onto a heated surface. The deposited atoms diffuse in the presence of this flux and eventually collide to form islands which grow and decay by the attachment and detachment of migrating atoms ...

Simulation of Dendritic-Eutectic Growth with the Phase-Field Method

open access: yesActa Materialia, 2023
Solidification is an important process in many alloy processing routes. The solidified microstructure of alloys is usually made up of dendrites, eutectics or a combination of both. The evolving morphologies are largely determined by the solidification process and thus many materials properties are dependent on the processing conditions.

Simulation of Cyclic Deformation Behavior of Selective Laser Melted and Hybrid-Manufactured Aluminum Alloys Using the Phase-Field Method

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2018
Selective laser melting process has already been developed for many metallic materials, including steel, aluminum, and titanium. The quasistatic properties of these materials have been found to be comparable or even better than their conventionally ...

Phase Field Methods for Binary Recovery [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We consider the inverse problem of recovering a binary function from blurred and noisy data. Such problems arise in many applications, for example image processing and optimal control of PDEs. Our formulation is based on the Mumford-Shah model, but with a phase field approximation to the perimeter regularisation.
