Switching Casimir forces with Phase Change Materials [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We demonstrate here a controllable variation in the Casimir force. Changes in the force of up to 20% at separations of ~100 nm between Au and AgInSbTe (AIST) surfaces were achieved upon crystallization of an amorphous sample of AIST.

First-order magnetic phase-transition of mobile electrons in monolayer MoS$_2$ [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Evidence is presented for a first-order magnetic phase transition in a gated two-dimensional semiconductor, monolayer-MoS$_2$. The phase boundary separates a spin-polarised (ferromagnetic) phase at low electron density and a paramagnetic phase at high ...

The Effect of a Phase Change on the Temperature Evolution during the Deposition Stage in Fused Filament Fabrication

open access: yesComputers, 2021
Additive Manufacturing Techniques such as Fused Filament Fabrication (FFF) produce 3D parts with complex geometries directly from a computer model without the need of using molds and tools, by gradually depositing material(s), usually in layers.

Time-Space Constrained Codes for Phase-Change Memories [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Phase-change memory (PCM) is a promising non-volatile solid-state memory technology. A PCM cell stores data by using its amorphous and crystalline states. The cell changes between these two states using high temperature.

A New Family of Ultralow Loss Reversible Phase‐Change Materials for Photonic Integrated Circuits: Sb2S3 and Sb2Se3

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, 2020
Phase‐change materials (PCMs) are seeing tremendous interest for their use in reconfigurable photonic devices; however, the most common PCMs exhibit a large absorption loss in one or both states.

Research on the thermal performance of the condenser in a loop heat pipe anti-icing system

open access: yesFrontiers in Energy Research, 2023
Loop Heat Pipes (LHPs) are efficient heat transfer devices, providing a highly efficient and energy-saving thermal control integrated management method for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) with their flexible structural design. In this paper, a conceptual

Experimental and numerical investigations of the optical and thermal aspects of a PCM-glazed unit [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
This paper reports on the thermal and optical characterisation of PCM (phase change material) RT27 using the T-history method and spectrophotometry principles, respectively, and the experimental and numerical performance evaluation of a PCM-glazed unit ...

Colorimetric Plasmonic Hydrogen Gas Sensor Based on One-Dimensional Nano-Gratings

open access: yesCrystals, 2023
Plasmonic hydrogen gas sensors have become widely used in recent years due to their low cost, reliability, safety, and measurement accuracy. In this paper, we designed, optimized, and fabricated a palladium (Pd)-coated nano-grating-based plasmonic ...

Heat storage in alloy transformations [PDF]

open access: yes, 1981
The feasibility of using metal alloys as thermal energy storage media was determined. The following major elements were studied: (1) identification of congruently transforming alloys and thermochemical property measurements; (2) development of a precise ...

Phase Transformation and Performance of Mg-Based Hydrogen Storage Material by Adding ZnO Nanoparticles

open access: yesNanomaterials, 2023
ZnO nanoparticles in a spherical-like structure were synthesized via filtration and calcination methods, and different amounts of ZnO nanoparticles were added to MgH2 via ball milling.
