Influence of the Copper Foam Fin (CFF) shapes on thermal performance of Phase-Change Material (PCM) in an enclosed cavity

open access: yesCase Studies in Thermal Engineering, 2021
Phase-Change Material (PCM) attracted much attention due to its high thermal storage density under the small temperature variation, its poor thermal conductivity limited the thermal charging/discharging efficiency significantly. To overcome this deficit,

Miniature Multilevel Optical Memristive Switch Using Phase Change Material [PDF]

open access: yesACS Photonics, 2019
The optical memristive switches are electrically activated optical switches that can memorize the current state. They can be used as optical latching switches in which the switching state is changed only by applying an electrical Write/Erase pulse and ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Phase Change Material Systems for High Temperature Heat Storage

open access: yesCHIMIA, 2015
Efficient, cost effective, and stable high-temperature heat storage material systems are important in applications such as high-temperature industrial processes (metal processing, cement and glass manufacturing, etc.), or electricity storage ...

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Resonant cavities with phase-changing materials

open access: yesOptics Letters, 2017
Phase changing materials are commonly used for optical switching, limiting, and sensing. In many important cases, the change in the transmission characteristics of the optical material is caused by light-induced heating. We demonstrate that the incorporation of such optical materials in judiciously designed photonic structures can dramatically alter ...

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Investigation of heat transfer of a building wall in the presence of phase change material (PCM)

open access: yes, 2020
The energy consumption in buildings for heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning is increasing with the increasing demand for thermal comfort. Thermal energy storage with phase change materials (PCMs) has attracted growing attention for its role in ...
